Our Experts Debate Whether Bush Is Spending Too Much Time on the Crawford Ranch
Aug. 26, 2005 -- President Bush is on pace to spend more time on vacation than any other president in modern times.
Today is the 342nd day he has spent at least some part of the day at his ranch, which means he's spent almost an entire year of his four and a half years in office at the ranch. That doesn't include time he's spent at his parents' place in Kennebunkport, Maine, or at Camp David.
If he stays at his Texas ranch until Sept. 3, as expected, the five-week stint away from the White House the 49th vacation he's taken at the ranch will surpass President Nixon's monthlong trip to Florida 36 years ago as the longest presidential retreat in the modern era.
Bush isn't the first president to take a lot of time off. His father, President George H.W. Bush, spent 153 days in Maine and 390 at Camp David; Dwight Eisenhower spent 222 days for 29 golf outings in Augusta, Ga., during his eight years in office; Harry Truman spent 175 days in Key West, Fla., over seven years; and Ronald Reagan famously loved his vacations, spending all or part of 335 days during his eight-year presidency at his Santa Barbara, Calif., ranch
The way Bush is going, he will surpass them all.
The White House has said the vacations "clear his mind," "it allows him to get back in touch with real America" and "he's earned it."
But with the average American receiving just two weeks off a year, are the president's lengthy vacations justified?

So what!!! Dubya's job continues whether in WDC, Texas, Maine or TimBukTu.........the MSM has entirely too much time on it's hands. They're desperate!
Funny, The "Frenchy French" get like 12 paid weeks off a year and they have no problem with that...
Were there endless programs on whether slick willie ought to have taken 500 people off to Africa.
The President is on duty 24/7. The four walls surrounding him are irrelevant.
Pray for W and Our Amazing Troops
Keep piling on MSM; keep piling on. Remember MSM, what comes around goes around.
The country was better off when the government would go on vacation for months at a time. The only people who are upset by this are the ones who think the bureaucrats in Washington are the ones who make the World go 'round.
How in the world can anybody think that President Bush is taking ANY time off from his 24/7/365 job?
Perhaps the Anti-America knobs at abccbsnbccnnpmsnbc need to take some time off from their jobs, and give the rest of the country a break. As low as their viewership is, barely anyone will notice.
Two points:
1) Apparently,Clinton never took a vacation.
2) I'd rather my president do odd jobs on his ranch than get blow jobs in his office.
You can always count on the MSM to look for the negative.... Business as usual...
It doesn't matter how much time he takes off as long as he gets his job done.
Which brings me to the Mexican border. Oh, and I wish he'd stop holding hands with Saudi princes, too.
Yeah, the poor dude is all tuckered out from fighting excessive Congressional spending.
But it takes a real leader to stand up to those spendthrifts, and veto their extravagent waste.
Old Jorge surely deserves a break from the rat race now and then, just to recharge his batteries.

Is this all they've got? That Pres. Bush works at home for a month, rather than in Washington? ABC's now spinning the spin.
It's my understanding the length of time is because the 'West Wing' is being renovated and this time was picked because all the other's are out of town.....ON VACATION!
They did the same thing to Reagan.
LOL...well said!
Excellent points.
I wish someone would send ABC and the other MSM jerks the President's schedule for the last month. Travels, meetings w advisor's (as I recall, there were security advisory and an economic advisory meetings early in the month) and foreign leaders in Crawford, etc. - how many days has he actually had a FULL DAY of vacation (even if you include the daily security briefings)????
