Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

The Fox reporter at the Superdome just interviewed some tourists who were waiting in the line. An Aussie and also some Brits. They were upbeat, just going through the motions, without seeming to have the slightest clue about what is about to happen. Awful.

I saw that too. They are just babes in the woods. They apparently have no idea as to the power of a tropical hurricane.

Hey...lay of Janice Dean...she is a good weatherperson...and that fact that she CARES means something to a lot of us!

Shep isn't crying...............yet.

Does that mean he "cares" less?

"People always say--well--all we can do is pray. What in the WORLD is more powerful than God--and right now we need ALL the prayer warriors on FreeRepublic praying that our Lord send His mightiest angels to do battle with this storm. Prayer is not a last resort--it is a first resort--and with this storm--the only resort! Prayer cover up!!"

AMEN.

Prayers being sent from all over the world for this, including from your less-than-frozen northern neighbour.

I am not putting the pic up to save bandwidth.

Who's bandwidth?.... Pictures aren't archived or hosted on the FR servers or they didn't used to be.

MSNBC said the Superdome can hold 100,000 if you put people on the playing field. Of course, if it's SRO, it could be even higher.

Too bad they can't get a live band in there. Maybe they could play "Nearer My God To Thee"...

Prayers being sent for all the people, animals, and even the beautiful buildings and city that are in the path of this devastating storm. I was only there once and I loved it. Praying for a MIRACLE.

I'm watching the WDSU report from the Superdome and there are thousands of short-tempered people waiting to get in. Each one is being patted down before being admitted. They may be there for as long as three days. From the interviews I saw, not everyone has brought food and water, and there will be no food provided. This just looks to me like it has the makings of a survival of the fittest strongest type situation. I wouldn't want to be there...

WDSU: Sustained winds 167 MPH; Gusts 202 MPH

N.O. Mayor Ray Nagin due on their set in a few moments.

I'm not overly impressed with him, but I'm just hoping and praying that things work themselves out OK.

I'm praying Shep knows how to take care of himself.

He's honestly tried to sound the alert on Bourbon Street. Idiots won't listen to him..

""Why are people going into a single structure is beyond me. ""

"Maybe they had no where else to go."

The
French Quarter has been there a long long time - I wouldn't argue with that kind of track record.
