George Bush never looked into Nick's eyes (Not so eerie similarities here.....)

George Bush never looked into Nick's eyes

Even more than the murderers who took my son's life, I condemn those who make policies to end lives

Michael Berg Friday May 21, 2004 The Guardian

My son, Nick, was my teacher and my hero. He was the kindest, gentlest man I know; no, the kindest, gentlest human being I have ever known. He quit the Boy Scouts of America because they wanted to teach him to fire a handgun. Nick, too, poured into me the strength I needed, and still need, to tell the world about him.

People ask me why I focus on putting the blame for my son's tragic and atrocious end on the Bush administration. They ask: "Don't you blame the five men who killed him?" I have answered that I blame them no more or less than the Bush administration, but I am wrong: I am sure, knowing my son, that somewhere during their association with him these men became aware of what an extraordinary man my son was. I take comfort that when they did the awful thing they did, they weren't quite as in to it as they might have been. I am sure that they came to admire him.

I am sure that the one who wielded the knife felt Nick's breath on his hand and knew that he had a real human being there. I am sure that the others looked into my son's eyes and got at least a glimmer of what the rest of the world sees. And I am sure that these murderers, for just a brief moment, did not like what they were doing.

George Bush never looked into my son's eyes. George Bush doesn't know my son, and he is the worse for it. George Bush, though a father himself, cannot feel my pain, or that of my family, or of the world that grieves for Nick, because he is a policymaker, and he doesn't have to bear the consequences of his acts. George Bush can see neither the heart of Nick nor that of the American people, let alone that of the Iraqi people his policies are killing daily.

Donald Rumsfeld said that he took responsibility for the sexual abuse of Iraqi prisoners. How could he take that responsibility when there was no consequence? Nick took the consequences.

Even more than those murderers who took my son's life, I can't stand those who sit and make policies to end lives and break the lives of the still living.

Nick was not in the military, but he had the discipline and dedication of a soldier. Nick Berg was in Iraq to help the people without any expectation of personal gain. He was only one man, but through his death he has become many. The truly unselfish spirit of giving your all to do what you know in your own heart is right even when you know it may be dangerous; this spirit has spread among the people who knew Nick, and that group has spread and is spreading all over the world.

So what were we to do when we in America were attacked on September 11, that infamous day? I say we should have done then what we never did before: stop speaking to the people we labelled our enemies and start listening to them. Stop giving preconditions to our peaceful coexistence on this small planet, and start honouring and respecting every human's need to live free and autonomously, to truly respect the sovereignty of every state. To stop making up rules by which others must live and then separate rules for ourselves.

George Bush's ineffective leadership is a weapon of mass destruction, and it has allowed a chain reaction of events that led to the unlawful detention of my son which immersed him in a world of escalated violence. Were it not for Nick's detention, I would have had him in my arms again. That detention held him in Iraq not only until the atrocities that led to the siege of Fallujah, but also the revelation of the atrocities committed in the jails in Iraq, in retaliation for which my son's wonderful life was put to an end.

My son's work still goes on. Where there was one peacemaker before, I now see and have heard from thousands of peacemakers. Nick was a man who acted on his beliefs. We, the people of this world, now need to act on our beliefs. We need to let the evildoers on both sides of the Atlantic know that we are fed up with war. We are fed up with the killing and bombing and maiming of innocent people. We are fed up with the lies. Yes, we are fed up with the suicide bombers, and with the failure of the Israelis and Palestinians to find a way to stop killing each other. We are fed up with negotiations and peace conferences that are entered into on both sides with preset conditions that preclude the outcome of peace. We want world peace now.

Many have offered to pray for Nick and my family. I appreciate their thoughts, but I ask them to include in their prayers a prayer for peace. And I ask them to do more than pray. I ask them to demand peace now.

Michael Berg is the father of Nick Berg, the US contractor beheaded on video in Iraq this month by a group believed to be linked to al-Qaida. This is an extract from his message of support for the Stop The War Coalition's demonstration, End the Torture - Bring the Troops Home Now, which will be held at 11am tomorrow at the Embankment in London.

this reminds me of the hand gun inc. good squads that fly out after each gun tragedy soliciting sob stories.

Where are the REAL Gold Star Mother stories?

Where is the 4th estate?

Whe do we have a MSM that is more 5th Column than information?

WHY ARE ADVERTISERS PAYING THEM FOR AD TIME?

Too bad. That's a skill that might have come in handy, in retrospect.

Michael Berg's been flapping his gums about the Iraq war from the moment his son went missing. To the day they have yet to explain what on earth was the man doing in Iraq at a time there was a war going on.

Bad decision. Those nasty handguns can come in handy later in life, when people are trying to kill you.

Tragically delusional man void of any reason or logic.

Fact of the matter is, Mr. Berg and people like him are 10X as responsible as President Bush for Nick's death.

It tells you just how far the liberal media has fallen when all we have to do now is read the name such as the "Guardian" or the "NY Times" and it instantly loses any credit it attempted to achieve or the message it attempts to send.

I have been a life-long Scouter, and not once have I ever seen a policy aimed at using handguns. This person is a liar.

I'm sorry, I can't even finish reading this...although it's understandable that a parent would be in incredible pain after losing a child, it's clear that this guy is selfish beyond words. He doesn't want to believe that the people who murdered his son were evil thugs. He should be honored that his son died for the betterment of the world. It sucks for sure that his son is gone, but he is blaming the wrong guy.

Excerpt from an AP story released on May 12, 2004

The body of the self-employed telecommunications businessman from West Chester, Pa., was being flown to Dover, Del., on an Air Force plane, the military said.
But unanswered questions remained about Berg in the days before he vanished, as well as where and when he was abducted.
Berg, who was Jewish, spoke to his parents March 24 and told them he would return home on March 30, according to his family in suburban Philadelphia.
But Berg was detained by Iraqi police at a checkpoint in Mosul on March 24. He was turned over to U.S. officials and detained for 13 days, the family said.
His father, Michael, said his son was not allowed to make phone calls or contact a lawyer.
Coalition spokesman Dan Senor told reporters that Berg was detained by Iraqi police in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. The Iraqis informed the Americans, and the FBI questioned him three times about what he was doing in Iraq.
Senor said that to his knowledge Berg ''was at no time under the jurisdiction or detention of coalition forces.''
Michael Berg told The Associated Press, however, that U.S. officials were ''playing word games.''
''The Iraqi police do not tell the FBI what to do. The FBI tells the Iraqi police what to do. Who do they think they're kidding?'' the elder Berg said.
Calls by the AP to police in Mosul failed to find anyone who could confirm Berg was held there. The U.S.-led Coalition Provisional Authority runs Iraq, controlling not only the police, but the military and all government ministries.
FBI agents visited Berg's parents March 31 and told the family they were trying to confirm their son's identity.
On April 5, the Bergs filed suit in federal court in Philadelphia, contending their son was being held illegally by the U.S. military. The next day, Berg was released. He told his parents he had not been mistreated.
Berg's father blamed the U.S. government for creating circumstances that led to his son's death, saying if his son had not been detained for so long, he might have been able to leave Iraq before the violence worsened.
''I think a lot of people are fed up with the lack of civil rights this thing has caused,'' Michael Berg said. ''I don't think this administration is committed to democracy.''
Asked for details about Berg's last weeks in Iraq, Senor replied: ''We are obviously trying to piece all this together, and there's a thorough investigation.'' He said he was reluctant to release details but did not say why.
''The U.S. government is committed to a very thorough and robust investigation to get to the bottom of this,'' Senor said, adding that ''multiple'' U.S. agencies would be involved and that the FBI would probably have overall direction.
Senor said that in Iraq, Berg had no affiliation with the U.S. government, the coalition or ''to my knowledge'' any coalition-affiliated contractor. But Senor would not specify why Iraqi police, who generally take direction from coalition authorities, had arrested him and held him.
Police in Mosul ''suspected that he was engaged in suspicious activities,'' Senor said, refusing to elaborate. Berg was released April 6 and advised to leave the country, Senor added.
Berg apparently had an Iraqi in-law in the Mosul area, according to emails to his family.
Brig. Gen Mark Kimmitt said the only role the U.S. military played in Berg's confinement was to liaise with the Iraqi police to make sure he was being fed and properly treated because ''he was still an American citizen.''
It was unclear whether al-Zarqawi was shown in the Web site video or simply ordered the killing. Al-Zarqawi also is sought in the assassination of a U.S. diplomat in Jordan in 2002, and Washington has offered a $10 million reward for information leading to his capture or killing.
Berg's father, brother and sister wept in their front yard Tuesday when told of the video.
''I knew he was decapitated before,'' said his father, Michael. ''That manner is preferable to a long and torturous death. But I didn't want it to become public.''
The father said ''there's a better chance than not'' that his son's captors knew he was Jewish. ''If there was any doubt that they were going to kill him, that probably clinched it, I'm guessing,'' he said.

I concur - this is a sick perverted statement. Terrorists saw his son's neck off, but yet he thinks they thought highly of him? This guy is a traitor to the country and he should get his sorry ass out ASAP. To humanize terrorists so as to demonize the president is sickening.

The MSM (5th Column) is only interested in ANTI-american stories.

They don't want to report the news, the MSM wants to DIRECT AND SHAPE the news.

It's a shame that two gutsy young men named Nick Berg and Casey Sheehan had Parents who pimped their dead children to the leftist. They should be remembered for their bravery, not the fact that they had selfish idiots for parents.
