Warning As Mobs Get Bolder
The New York Post ^ | September 1, 2005 | Kevin McGill

NEW ORLEANS — Mayor Ray Nagin ordered 1,500 police officers to leave their search-and-rescue mission last night and return to the streets to stop looting that has turned increasingly hostile as the city plunges deeper into chaos.

"They are starting to get closer to heavily populated areas — hotels, hospitals — and we're going to stop it right now," Nagin said.

The number of officers called off the search-and-rescue mission amounts to virtually the entire police force in New Orleans.

The out-of-control thievery had escalated while cops joined National Guardsmen in focusing on saving lives.

In some cases, New Orleans police officers took part in the looting. One cop was seen carting off a computer and a 27-inch flat-screen TV, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Earlier yesterday, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blan- co said she has asked the White House to send more people to help with evacuations and rescues, thereby freeing up National Guardsmen to stop looters.

The looting got worse as people brazenly ran- sacked stores for food, beer, clothing, appliances — and guns.

There have been some citizen-vs.-criminal standoffs, with one shopkeeper posting an ominous sign: "You loot, I shoot."

Amazing.

Some freepers defended the looting, saying "you don't know what you would do in the same situation!" (yes I do - I wouldn't loot - just like almost everyone else here).

They chastised those who called for shooting looters. Called them fascists and the like.

Now, like the liberals, they get to see the fruits of their policies.

Not receiving any deterrence, the looters are emboldened and better armed. MORE people will suffer as a result of not nipping this in the bud.

But at least the hand wringers got to feel good about their situational ethics.

Maybe Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton can appeal to the people to stop looting . . . oh yeah, they would rather blame Bush for it.

I saw the video on FNC last night of several female police officers participating in the looting. They actually had a shopping cart and were rolling it down the aisles!! Anarchy.

I'll confess, I was wrong. Not that I thought the initial looting was OK, just that I didn't think it was that big of a deal compared to the priority of saving people. But y'all were right, the tolerance of it as led to far worse activities then simply raiding wal-mart. At this point, helicopter gunships should blast anyone who gets near the hospitals, retirement homes, etc.

Good for him.

On those, I'd save judgement in case they were ordered to get vital items for feeding or treating survivors. Maybe even if they were taking DVD's to keep crowds in shelters occupied and managable. Then the city can work with the merchants and insurance agencies on compensation.

If they were taking them for personal use, the videotapes should be used for prosecution and they should be made an example of prosecution for looting.

The shelters have home theater systems with power?

Note to self: Never turn in my guns. In times of chaos, warlords quickly appear, and the authorities disappear.

Why evacuate thugs to Texas?

Because Texas won't put up with lawlessness.

Blanco could be slicker than we think(or her handlers at the DNC).
By waiting too late to take any real action she can blame it on Bush, possibly get rid of a few undesirables in the NO neighborhood, blame that on bush, and claim that the administration is racist when it was really her call and she failed to make it. Slick, but disgusting.

The rats take advantage of their biggest constituency (black voters) all the time. This wouldn't be the first time they stuck it too them, again.

In reality the rats are the biggest racists of all time.

Ah, but we've got FReepers hereabouts whom are delighted to no end about the looting going on, and wax rhapsodic about the "hero's" committing said acts of theft in NO right now...

FOX news just had a great story. Some State Senators had sent some buses to pick up medical patients. State troopers commandeered the buses at gunpoint, and loaded them with telephone employees, saying they were more valuable than the ill patients. When the ill patients showed up, they had to stand in the aisles. WOW!

And if we did find it necessary to Loot some food and water after a few days with none, WE SURE AS HELL WOULD NOT have started looted clothing stores while it was still raining.
It is pure and simple thievery and defending it is baseless.

Opportunity to steal from another for profit is always on the minds of those who have no desire to obtain these items through honest hard work. A natural disaster like this is a dream come true for the criminals wandering the streets of N.O.

The honest people in left in the city who may be starving need to eat, that is another story.

You are right.

The true character of a man use to be defined by what he would do when he thought that no one was looking....now thanks to our 'all morals are relative' way of thinking...the true character of a man is defined by what he will do when he thinks he can get away with it (and who cares that an entire nation is looking).

I'm sure that this will be blamed not on the fruits of liberal policies (and welfare handouts that have led to class warfare and the feeling of entitlement) and not on the people actually committing the wrong doing (boohoo how could we blame the guy doing the stealing?) but on society and some supposed lack of compassion..yeah right...my @ss
