"Just listening to re-run of Dennis Prager show, and he had a guest on who was talking about the disaster and topic of other cities that have been elevated ,, Seattle and sacramento are two examples, but these were done years ago. "

Sacramento? Are you sure? Sacramento is inland...nowhere near the coastline. Seattle is on Puget Sound and the Olympic mountains are west of the Sound.

I heard that the Army Corp. of Engineers had requested millions to add a higher levee for N. O. but it got turned down.

THey can't "build up" New Orleans. It was not built below sea level, it SUNK to below sea level. They can't stop it from sinking, they can't put pylons deep enough to hit land that won't sink.

Anything they do to build up the city, it will just sink again.

And why is the Governor of Louisiana talking about how ARKANSAS national guard troops are finally showing up to police one of her cities? Couldn't she have called up her own national guard before the hurricane even hit, and positioned it near the city to be deployed as soon as conditions were settled?

Hasterd is right but his timing sucks.

Hope there are a few special forces units in N.O. to protect the national guard. It is infuriating that gangsters with guns stopped a massive citizen volunteer rescue operation today. Every gangster in N.O. should be shot. There are still thousand of people trapped in N.O. on roofs and in water loged building, time is running out for them, how many days on a roof can they take.

Yup.. Old Sacramento, now a historic district, was founded on the banks of the Sacramento river and was subject to frequent floods until leveees were built. The area directly East from the Bay Area towards there has an extensive network of levees that were built years ago.

One of these years heavy rains will burst some of the big ones and look out.

Every once and a while one will rupture and sizeable acreage will be underwater 'til the levee is repaired and the water drained..

In New Orleans, shoot to kill needs to be little more than a nick.

Tetanus, typhoid, cholera and dysentery will be just as effective in culling the looters as 5.56mm and 12 gage.

Teachers and bus drivers are welcomed in Vegas We have a shortage of both. Nellis AFB has sent 3 Pave Hawk Helos with crews to help rescue from rooftops.

You'd think Blancho would be telling the people constantly help is on the way.

I bet that ticks off the people of Louisiana and it should! It's like she is almost saying Louisiana can't handle the situation. If she would get the hell out of the way and let them they could have taken care of it before it happened and arrested the thugs who are terrorizing N.O. now.

It seems she is the problem and not part of the solution. I think she is a LUNATIC. She is certainly not up to the job of Governor through this crisis.

At a press conference Thursday night, she said that 300 soldiers from the Arkansas National Guard arrived in New Orleans fresh from Iraq and are under orders to restore order from the “hoodlums.’’

How long before they want to go back to the safety of Iraq?

"An angry Gov. Kathleen Blanco demanded that Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, R-Ill..."

Maybe instead of crying on TV and yelling at Republicans, she should try to lead the people in restoring order. Just a thought.

The Arkansas National Guard? Isn't that insensitive? Arkansas refuses to purge their state flag of its Confederate themes. Won't invading Army troops with a Confederate themed shoulder patch evoke terrible reminders of the C.S.A. and slavery?

Confederate battle flag:

I'm thinking of starting a Scarlet Letter award thread and my first recipient would be Gov. Blanco for being the complete LOSER for focusing her anger on what the House Speaker said rather than channelling her anger towards the criminals who have pillaged what's left of that water hazard formerly known as New Orleans.

New Orleans is underwater, but it is only a question of time before the Mississippi decides it won't be coming down to the Big Easy anymore.

Actually I was being sarcastic.

Sorry I didn't see it until you told me, but your comment is much funnier now. Well then I'll have to ask Blanco. Do you know if any reporter had enough brains to ask her why she's acting like a freak?

And the first terr perp with a piper cub loaded with some dynamite could take out a levee for round two?? The risk is too great, turn it into an American Venice or forgetaboutit.

" Levees and Sacramento"

Isn't there a river that runs near Sacramento? I don't think it's the Colorado... Erosion occurs everywhere in CA...and don't forget, it's in the "ring of fire".

Still, it's not likely Sacramento will be hit by a hurricane.

Hastert will probably be proved even more correct than he thinks once the "pumping out" project is attempted. I'm sure that Blank-O and the LMSM will issue contrite apologies at that time.

/sarcasm on the last sentence

I don't want federal money to rebuild a place that is below sea level, if the private sector wants to take the risk and can afford the insurance, fine let them.
