It was Bush that asked the Gov and Mayor to order a mandatory evacuation, NOT their idea at all.

Yup- it is President Bush's fault that there are so many people to shelter and feed. The Mayor of NO was trying to keep that bill down for us.

Blanco is history next election. Hate to say it but people don't want to see tears flowing out of your eyes during a natural disaster, they want some leadership.

I also remember Haley Barbor pleading - err "I BEG YOU TO LEAVE" in Mississippi yet in LA they let the party go on all night & didn't clear out French Quarter.

Makes you wonder why the mayor had not planned for this. I don't know how to get the picture, but there is a picture of 100's of school buses in the water that could have been used.

"Are we sure the evacuation order was given on Sunday, not Saturday? If it didn't happen until Sunday, that is almost criminal."This was a Sunday news report, so it happened Saturday or earlier prior to the news deadline.

Hey joinedafterattack, Can you look on their Website (I can't go due to an extreme. life threatening CNN allergy) for the fact that President Bush Declared LA and MISS disaster areas BEFORE the storm hit and how much praise the locals gave him for that BOLD MOVE?

The spin may be that President Bush urged an evacuation but failed to provide the means to do so.
To: lexington minuteman 1775
If I remember the last week correctly, Nagin spent last Saturday consulting with lawyers on the liabilities that would result from a mandatory evacuation.
But just one more time for the "Bush's fault" crowd:
Just imagine if he didn't.

Also add that when he said "it will be as bad or worse than Camille" that people listened and realized they better get out.

Are we sure the evacuation order was given on Sunday, not Saturday? If it didn't happen until Sunday, that is almost criminal. The mandatory evacuation order didn't happen until Sunday (somewhere around 9:30 am). A voluntary order went out at 4:45 pm Saturday.

Robert Latham, director of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, said the state was recommending evacuations along the coast "and even several counties inland." Mandatory evacuations could follow later, he said.
