Halliburton hired for storm cleanup
The Houston Chronicle ^ | Sept. 1, 2005 | The Houston Chronicle

Posted on 09/02/2005 6:17:31 PM PDT by Conservative Firster

The Navy has hired Houston-based Halliburton Co. to restore electric power, repair roofs and remove debris at three naval facilities in Mississippi damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Halliburton subsidiary KBR will also perform damage assessments at other naval installations in New Orleans as soon as it is safe to do so.

KBR was assigned the work under a "construction capabilities" contract awarded in 2004 after a competitive bidding process. The company is not involved in the Army Corps of Engineers' effort to repair New Orleans' levees.

I have not laughed out loud yet keeping track of this storm. However after reviewing the media spin today and then seeing this headline, I broke my silence.

Ha. The DUmmies biggest "find" is a request for help from Bush on the 28th, AFTER he already pledged it. Evidently this is a new hot piece of information that will finally get Bush impeached. LOL.

Haliburton would probably have provided services at a reduced rate if they did not already have a contract. Many companies are donating money, services and free products, including the oil companies. But do you think that the media would recognize this?

No, because nobody on the other side gave a fig about what no bid contracts Halliburton was awarded when Bubba was president. The double standard of the libbies is absurd.

And some of mine are in Iowa, as well!

At least the Halliburton/KBR workers will have fewer people shooting at them this time. :)

In 1992, LA Riots, before the fires were out:

Big outcry from local black spokespersons about how the contracts for rebuilding should go to local black enterprises.

Bottom line, of course, few had the total capability. But be assure, political pressure came to bear such that significant effort went toward that approach.

I know a white contractor from Anaheim, that completed a $5 million shopping center rebuild. He said it took a long time, a lot of red tape.

He did successfully use local minority craft subcontractors. They had to make sure the workers understood this wasn't a slip-and-fall opportunity type of jobsite.

Los Angeles metropolitan area has qualified insurance repair contractors. They initially secure the buildings (board them up).

No doubt NO has such contractors. When it reaches that stage, will the neighborhood thugs shoot the workmen?
