Nagin's Failure

This AP photo shows scores of New Orleans school buses sitting in flood waters after Hurricane Katrina - sitting where they sat instead of being used to evacuate thousands of poor people before Katrina hit.

Why are scores of school buses sitting in the flood waters of New Orleans today? Blame New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, who is one reason things have gotten worse, not better, in his stricken city since it was hit by Hurricane Katrina. His laissez faire approach to looting allowed the looters to become increasingly armed and violent, interrupting rescue and recovery operations.

But even before Katrina hit, he failed his poorest citizens horribly. He told them to evacuate the city - and then gave his city's poorest residence no way to do so.

Nagin lashed out at federal officials yesterday for the government's relief efforts, pleading for the government to round up "500 buses" to send to New Orleans to evacuate survivors.

But Nagin, who ordered a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans before Katrina hit, ought to be made to answer this question: Where are the buses of the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority? Under water? Destroyed? Why?

Oh yeah. The same Nagin who quietly slipped about 400 residents of the Ritz Carlton past the lowly sick and starving peons who've been awaiting transportation to safety for five days.

Yet they'll reelect him. You see, he has the GOLDEN D after his name!

They're all blaming Bush. It makes me sick that they're sooo ignorant!

This photo should be tattooed to Nagin's forehead...

This will be the standard reply I'd present to all presstitutes and others who carry the water (make excuses for DUmocrats) when the subject is to blame Bush for all:

The nanny state/welfare mentality - it's always someone else's job. What part of MANDITORY EVACUATION do these fools in the media not get? The people on the coast were warned, told to leave, and chose to stick it out thereby endangered themselves and their families. That would be considered neglect when parents put their children in danger.

The Governor and Mayor's extreme ineptitude is what the bozos in the lame-steam media should be focused on. It was their job to prepare their constituents, NOT the federal government. There was ample time to prepare, and most responsible adults took to the road for safety. Yet all that was offered on the state level was another poor evacuation plan from the dimwit dimocrats. Either using "one way out" stuck in traffic or holing up in the dome, what choices!

Before the storm, they could have used all the school & city buses to evacuate those who couldn't make it on their own to higher ground further inland. But they chose weakness in the face of real danger instead.

After the storm, all resources were put at their disposal, yet they delayed making the request as well as delayed the delivery when aid arrived. Martial Law was declared and yet they still sat on their hands allowing lawlessness to erupt. Neither can handle their jobs, yet refuse to step aside and allow someone else to handle it.

If President Bush hadn't announced the evacuation order, there would be more loss and suffering, mainly due to the clueless Democrats who failed to do anything - who, by the way, have been in charge of that state long before Bush ran for office.

When you have your hand extended, you shouldn't b!tch about getting aid when you were told to prepare for 3-5 days of food and water. When it comes to your family's safety, waiting on government to solve your problems is no better than waiting on a welfare check instead of getting off your arse and finding work.

But I guess wading around in sewage and griping about it is a much more pleasing alternative if you always pull the "D" lever when it's time to elect leadership. The failure of a democrat-led state is why the media is out in force trying to point fingers at Bush, when they all know the reality of the situation...their own failures cause many more to die than would have if they hadn't been slow to react.

Do you think the MSM is finally catching on?

FFC. (they may know, but it's still a "FFC" they'll disseminate their newfound wisdom)

I figure he's the head of the news team and has a lot to say about what kind of coverage gets broadcast.

I'm thinking he let Special Report go for the last half of this week so that he can be on board with it when the Senate starts with the Roberts' hearings.

(Just my reasoing FWIW.

Greta interviewed a kid who stole a working school bus, stuffed it with 80 suffering people--the old, infirm--and drove them to the Houston Astrodome. He'd never driven before.

God only knows how many died because of his arrogant stupidity.

Or just plain evil within him.

Even if they are school buses he could have commandeered them for the busing of New Orleans' residents out of the town before Katrina hit.

Good point about the municpal fleet, though. I'll bet they are underwater too!

Poor planning on the part of the city of New Orleans.

In addition to the city's transit and school buses, they also had access to the city's fleet of cars, vans, and trucks that are used by their various departments. First response starts at the local level and that means Nagin.

Nagin, like most urban "leaders", are in way over their heads. Of course it doesn't show until something like this happens.

Gretta VanSus... had a 17 year old boy on her show tonight who stole one of those buses. He'd never driven a bus before. In desperation, he broke into the yard, found the keys, and took the bus downtown NO where he picked up 80 people. He then drove them to the refugee center in Houston. For gas money, they all pooled whatever cash they had in their pockets.

Now if he did it, seems to me that ALL those buses could have been used, moving at least 8000 people (100 buses).

What a story!!!!
