I'm working on it. It will take a bit of time though, with the Holiday weekend. Thanks for more information.
What I found so far, and this was just a quick search, was some comments from before the hurricane hit. from CBS (barf;) They expected 100,000 in 10 shelters?? I hated seeing all the buses under water. As a poster stated on another thread, They could have bused them up north to public schools.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/08/27/national/main798725.shtml CBS/AP) Conceding that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport, the city arranged buses to take people to 10 last-resort shelters, including the Superdome.
"It's capable of causing catastrophic damage," said Max Mayfield, director of the National Hurricane Center, referring to the danger for New Orleans. "Even well-built structures will have tremendous damage. Of course, what we're really worried about is the loss of lives... New Orleans may never be the same."
This is very interesting that people should not return until damage was assessed.
**Dr. Walter Monsour, director of emergency management in the New Orleans area, says the city is "going to experience a significant tidal surge" and is asking evacuees to stay out of town until well after the storm - to give authorities time to assess the expected damage. **
***President Bush, as he readied the federal government for a massive relief effort, on Sunday urged people in the path of Hurricane Katrina to forget anything but their safety and move to higher ground as instructed.
President Bush saved lives by making this announcement, I'm certain of that.
The sad part, the state officials knew what was coming. If they had a serious evacuation plan, there would have been thousands of more people who left that city. The blame is on those city officials. I can't imagine how it must be for Bush to deal with such dopes and then the malicious msm.

The more I read about Nagin (and Blanco too), the more I am amazed and disgusted by the incompetence, inaction and incomprehension shown towards this disaster since the beginning.
Are you still of that opinion now that you have seen what airpower did today?
In all honesty...I couldn't find the Parish where New Orleans was located. (maybe I don't know what to look for) Probably doesn't matter, though, since ALL of Louisiana was warned.
Caution low flying objects...chickens coming home to roost! We in FR figured as much, did we not?
Thanks for the heads up on this one, Grampa Dave.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
Orleans (same as the city NO), adjacent Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes are not on this list.
Had there been a man like GW as mayor of NO and governor
of Miss. I doubt there would have been 1% the same loss of life...or much looting...
It's all about the content of a man's character...
The Mayor is on 60 Minutes now, back peddling like mad. Shame on him!
I missed the Mayor on 60 Minutes, I missed Witt on MSNBC. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
It's all about the content of a man's character...
What the MSM is forgetting: President Bush WAS a governor of a state. He knows how the system is supposed to work as far as disasters & the Federal Government.
Not only was he a governor, but leader of the second largest state in the US...the one where the evacuees are being sent. Due to the fact that he was/is from the state next to Louisiana I would bet Governor Bush heard a great deal about the underhanded goings on in LA, New Orleans in particular.
Dear Lord, the man is of the highest caliber & they keep harping on him. Believe it or not, President Bush didn't "jump" into the Presidency from the cradle. LOL
