Well, people here in Tennessee and in Texas and other states have been taking them in from Louisiana. A lot of churches here are set up to take in refugees and the residents here are bringing supplies to these shelters by the truckloads.

Can this guy be removed from power, and have someone appointed ?

He's "mayor" of an empty shell now. I say we let him remain mayor as long as he wants, since he can't hurt anyone else as long as NO remains unpopulated.

There was a huge fleet of city buses in addition to the school buses. The city buses would have held a lot of people.

Pic of Nagin...
You know, he looks a lot like Ron P. Reagan.

Aside from the sick, infirm, etc., were the emergency responders who were told to wait AT HOME for the calls. This includes police, fire, and medical personnel as well as support staff. Another group who didn't evacuate were the students at the universities who didn't have cars--and couldn't rent because they were too young. Amazingly, the universities told them they would get them out, then at the last minute said they couldn't--no explanation why.

There is, however, one group I have no sympathy for. I know in my heart of hearts that the ones we saw looting stayed behind precisely for that purpose. To loot. I have NO doubt that as soon as people started to leave, they were breaking into houses as quickly as possible before the storm hit. I only wish more of them had "washed away."

"The criticisms of Nagin came from above as well. Numerous officials urged him to evacuate the city, but he worried about the legality of ordering people out when New Orleans has few safe hurricane shelters. Also, National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield in Miami called Nagin at home Saturday night and told him: Get people out of New Orleans.

Have you seen this????

Tulane said it would have bus service to take the remaining Tulane folks out at noon on Sunday. Did they not arrive?

I also think the MSM is negligent for not broadcasting warnings in a very broad context. Most of the information I had prior to the hurricane came from cable news or the weather channel or the internet. I follow the news. The people who are most vulnerable do not have cable nor do they go to news internet sites and even if they did, many people watch television for entertainment only.

"...I HEARD Max Mayfield in an interview saying he'd called the mayor and basically begged him."

I was streaming WWL, and saw the Mayor say this himself.
Well, except for the "begging" part. ;o)

The Mayor was pleading for the people to evacuate, while
the attorneys were checking the legalities of a mandatory
evacuation order.

Wussie buncha 'Rats...

A local kid is reporting that no, the bus did NOT arrive at Tulane, and others have said the same of other universities.

"There was a huge fleet of city buses in addition to the school buses. The city buses would have held a lot of people."

From what I have read, there were apparently enough buses to evacuate all of the people remaining in the city.

Nagin will be the fall guy in this for the Dems. He was a Republican before he switched affiliations and ran for NO mayor. Leftwingers viewed his candidacy as a Republican trick. He even endorsed Jindal for governor over Blanco. He's not beloved in Dem circles and will end up taking the fall for other die hard Dems are are just as responsible for this fiasco.
