Read the article below from AP. Fed. response was immediate and timely - within 24 hrs., contrary to recent revisionism:

As dawn broke on the day after Hurricane Katrina's landfall, emergency officials in the Gulf Coast states faced the sobering reality of the storm's devastation. With confirmed deaths now past 50, Mississippi's governor warned that the toll in one county alone could rise to 80.
The death toll soared with the grim discovery of numerous bodies in the remains of a Biloxi, Mississippi, apartment complex. Authorities said the count of lives lost is certain to rise as rescue workers reach victims in other flood-ravaged neighborhoods.
Even with Katrina swirling away to the north as a tropical storm, two different levee breaches in New Orleans sent a churning sea of water coursing through city streets.
"The hurricane was scary," Scott Radish told The Times-Picayune. "All the tree branches fell, but the building stood. I thought I was doing good. Then I noticed my Jeep was under water."
Across the Gulf Coast, boats rescued people clinging to rooftops, hundreds of trees were uprooted and sailboats were flung about like toys after Katrina crashed ashore yesterday in what could become the most expensive storm in U.S. history.
The federal government began rushing baby formula, communications equipment, generators, water and ice into hard-hit areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, along with doctors, nurses and first-aid supplies.
The U.S. Defense Department sent experts to help with search-and-rescue operations.
"We pray that the loss of life is very limited, but we fear that is not the case," Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco said.
New Orleans, relieved to have missed the brunt of the killer hurricane, found itself dealing with a second, creeping disaster on the day after the storm.
Some of these media whores owe Bush a huge apology!!
It'll be a cold day in hell before that happens I realize since they hate whites, especially white republicans more than the sad truth of who is really to blame.
Don't forget, the US Coast Guard was rescuing people while it was still raining.
Somebody made a movie last year called, "A Day without a Mexican" about how Los Angeles would not work without them.
We should make a movie titled, "A day without a Republican."
People can bash Bush all they want. That's their right.
But it WILL hurt donations.
Republicans give far more to charity than Democrats.
That's right and I almost... ALMOST... regret giving
after hearing what I'm hearing.
As msnimje stated... just IMAGINE this country without the republicans!!!!!!!!
Having thugs shooting at the helicopters, boats and police on the ground may not have been factored into any disaster relief plan. It certainly held up rescue time.
I haven't seen any TV pictures of the 150 or more school buses sitting fender high in water, unused for the evacuation of people without cars. Nor have I seen more than once the flotilla of shallow water boats that arrived quite early only to be shot at.
CNN had a summary type show tonight. They made it seem that the looting started only after the city flooded and they failed to mention the shooting at all. Revisionist history is starting already.
FWIW, LA formally requested FEMA assistance on 8/28. See: http://gov.louisiana.gov/Disaster%20Relief%20Request.pdf
Read the document, it predicted a major disaster that would be beyond the ability of state and local government to cope.
The state sent a formal request to FEMA for aid on 8/28.
Extremely impressive. Thanks for posting!
thanks, do you have a link?
ROFL!!!!!
I bet you are right!
Frist was interviewed by Geraldo and while Frist mentioned how difficult it was and is to get supplies and rescuers to the victims because of the high water levels and everything being closed off, he didn't once mention the looters or the gang-bangers. Didn't once mention how that held up efforts.
We can't talk about it you know, because that woud be racist. (rolling eyes!)
bump
Thanks. I don't see where it mentions anything about troops.
Looks like she didn't ask for Michigan's help until Wednesday, according to the AP:
The Michigan National Guard was asked for military police by Mississippi late Tuesday and by Louisiana officials late Wednesday.
Oh! the irony ...
Yes, I hope they never learn too. Perhaps, to compound their idiocy, they should run Nagin in the next Presidential election. Perhaps as VP. Something to honor that dim man. He'll be a perfect representative for them -- their kind of hero.
