The quote was very close to "wipe me out."

CNN transcript will show the exact quote.

My approximation is close enough.

The man looked like he has had it. I can understand the fatigue. However, regardless, those are not words you want to say on national TV during a serious crisis. One must be a leader under pressure. Imagine the pressure President Bush was under or Rudy Giuliani. Where is this man heading. I think he is staring dangerously into the abyss. Somebody needs a 'time out'. Can we have the adults take over??

thanks for the heads up on another CNN transcript to watch for. do you know who was interviewing him? In the meantime, here's another rant, from the idiotic Carol Moseley Braun on CNN by phone, earlier in the day:

""CAROL MOSELEY BRAUN, FORMER U.S. SENATOR: Well, I wish it were under better circumstances.

HARRIS: I'm sure you do. We all do. I have to ask you, what your impressions are. We're almost a week into this disaster. Can I ask you for your immediate and well thought out impression?

BRAUN: A complete break down of government. And, counter productive response. Response was not only late but at this time counter productive. I just heard from my family members in Baton Rouge, now, they were able to flee New Orleans.

The place is so locked down now, they're treating the people like refugees and rioters and not allowing the healthy to take care of the sick. Not allowing people to leave their homes. And get across the Mississippi Bridge. Get across the bridge over the Mississippi to get out of town. It is not only an inadequate response but at this point it borders on a criminal one. I'm just horrified. The dead are not identified and not being secured if you will. I'm told they're talking about a mass grave for people instead of --

HARRIS: Oh my

BRAUN: Even attempting to deal with the death, the dead with some dignity. The people who are healthy are being locked in their homes told to stay in their homes. They can't leave to get food and supplies and frankly, you know, my family was appalled at the fact that when whites and -- went to stores and got food and supplies, they were seen as doing what was necessary.

When blacks went to do the same thing, they were called rioters. People should not be deferred to as refugees and rather treated like American citizens. Deserving of the support from their government to deal with this."

One must be a leader under pressure.

Not to get too far of topic but what you say reminds me about the folly of cutting short the primary season like some suggest - holding regional primaries or one big national one. Sure the endless trek from state to state is tedious as are some of the stranger rituals like the pancake breakfast. But that process is as close as we can come to putting the candidates under some sort of stress and see how they hold up. How can they handle the mundane? How can they hold up to a criss-cross schedule? How can they prioritize where to campaign as the races unfold? The few stories of Kerry's crankiness were telling and if we had a real press instead of a DNC publicity machine, we would have known this beyond the limits of the Internet.

Fatigue? Hell, he's been hanging out in Baton Rouge, and undoubtedly in fine style unlike his former constituents.

I have probably missed it, but the closest I've seen him back to Nawlins was when he accompanied the Prez on the helichopter tour yesterday.

The contents of Giuliani's handkerchief have more competence and morality than Nagin.
