I don't get it.
This is supposed to be a political debate forum, but I never see any substantial debate at all.
I saw a post earlier today that seemed like a reasonable (and mild) criticism and it was deleted.
Then it happened again. There was a small post that seemed like it was reasonable enough and it was deleted.
The terms of service says that Free Republic doesn't censor its posts, but thats what it looks like to me.
It is worth noting that in recent disasters, no one shot at rescue helicopters, doctors, police or firemen. I never heard of rapes or murders in the tsunami or 9/11 aftermath, either.
Great, but you missed another person. Eddie Jordan, the District Attorney. He has allowed crime to rise to a level of nearly being the worst city in the US. With only 475K (est) citizens.
The crime existed prior to the storm and that is why you see chaos. What we saw in New Orleans would be in just about every major City if given a chance. Take for example, a City winning a championship game and the looting and burning that takes place.
We must Civilize the uncivilized. Getting rid of many of the so called leaders would be a great start.
Getting back to point of the original thread, it bears repeating over and over until the MSM and America understands.
Three key issues being missed by the MSM that are the true cause of the mishandling of this adventure:
1. The National Guard does not fall under federal control. Municipal and state authorities control them, and for apparently political reasons they passed up opportunities to mobilize them.
2. The federal government does not control buses or handle evacuations. Local authorities do. Again, apparently for political reasons, they declined to order a full on mandatory evacuation, probably because they feared an "unnecessary" panic.
2. The NO breech did not occur until 2am Monday Morning, and the press and apparently the local authorities did not recognize it as horrid disaster that it was, and failed to respond to it as strongly as they could. National resources were not requested by local authorities until after the city was fully lost and the disaster was well underway.
