Havana, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) Some 1,100 Cubans doctors specialized in disaster care are ready to be flown to help Hurricane Katrina victims wherever they are needed. They are just waiting for the US government´s authorization to go to the affected areas.

The first team of 100 was ready to fly on Saturday if the US government authorized it for Houston´s International Airport, the closest major facility to the disaster area.

A second group of 500 would do it Sunday, said Cuban President Fidel Castro who made public on Friday night the offer to aid the Gulf State victims of Hurricane Katrina.

From Houston, he said, the medical personnel could be transported by air, water or land to the neighborhoods of New Orleans where they are most needed.

In announcing the Cuban aid offer, Castro said the medical personnel would each be equipped with basic medical equipment and 24 kilos of essential medicines necessary to save lives.

He said the doctors could work individually or in teams of two or more, according to the circumstances, and would stay for as long as they are needed.

In summing up the island´s offer to assist the hurricane victims, the Cuban president stressed that the total of 1,100 doctors would also take with them years of international experience and the basic knowledge of the English language to assist patients in New Orleans and other areas of Louisiana.

Fidel: Thanks, but no thanks. We already have enough thugs to keep an eye out.

Oh, one more thing: STFU!

Hopefully none are convicts? Is that a politically correct question?

I think we should let them in. Like the Law of the Sea, disaster victims don't care about politics, and neither should we.

What a crock. Since when does Cuba have 1100 doctors to spare?

I guess it's that superior Socialist/Communist health care system they have.

We wouldn't expect your guys to make housecalls. How about we send a few thousand patients to you.

And don't feel obligated to send them back.

Castro was very early in offering medical assistance after 9-11 also.

I think we should take him up on it.
He wore a suit for the Pope didn't he?!

We should call his buff.

That pig would never let 1,000 doctors out of Cuba

No I think that would be a good thing.

Over 500 have split from Venezuela already, and are here.

Cuban-Americans are probably one of the greatest assets to our country. It's amazing how much they have achieved.

I think the pertinent questions are:
How many of those "doctors" have been recently released from prison?
And... How many of those "doctors" actually plan to return to the "socialist paradise" (or is it communist--so hard to remember)?
