Democrat Head of Jefferson Parish Accuses Federal Government of "Murdering" Thousands
CNN | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 09/05/2005 5:34:30 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

I just caught an interview on CNN of Aaron Broussard, a Democrat who is the President of Jefferson Parish, Lousiana.

The essence of his rant was that the federal government in general and FEMA in particular are "covering their butts" by concealing the number of dead.

At one point Broussard said, verbatim, that FEMA was trying to hide the fact that they had "murdered" thousands of people through their bureaucratic incompetence.

This is how the Democrats will try to exploit this tragedy.

A couple sidenotes: given his claim that there was an astronomical number of dead, the CNN interviewer asked him to estimate the number.

Broussard refused, saying his priority was on helping the survivors. Of course that is EXACTLY the same thing FEMA and the federal government are saying and doing, but apparently what is sauce for the Democrat goose is not sauce for the GOP gander.

Second, the CNN interviewere did not call Broussard on his outrageous accusation that the Bush administration had "murdered" thousands of its citizens. Not one peep, not one reference to his slander. The interviewer simply bade him a fond farewell with thanks for his appearance.

This bawling clown is under investigation for embezzling funds already, and that's before the feds look into what happened to the FEMA preparedness funds. That story he was blubbering about on CNN about the old lady "drownding" (LA parish presidents don't have to speak English) in the nursing home sounds very fishy since the water wasn't rising after it reached the level of Lake Pontchartrain on Thurs. Wonder who drowned her on Friday night? It wasn't Pres. Bush.

We started another of our brand new, long standing family traditions today...Going to Cracker Barrel for Labor Day Breakfast. ( I recommend it!)

So I missed this morning's CNN Soledad O'Brien interviewing Mayor Nagin. Here it is:

"CNN's Soledad O'Brien spoke with the mayor who is seething at the lack of an effective state and federal response to Katrina's aftermath.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MAYOR RAY NAGIN, NEW ORLEANS: And what the state was doing, I don't freaking know. But I'll tell you, I am pissed. It wasn't adequate. And then the president and the governor sat down. We were in Air Force One. I said, Mr. President, Madam Governor, you two have to get in sync. If you don't get in sync, more people are going to die.

SOLEDAD O'BRIEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: What day did you go? When did you say that? When did you say...

NAGIN: Whenever Air Force One was here.

O'BRIEN: OK.

NAGIN: And that this was after I called him on the telephone two days earlier. And I said, Mr. President and Madam Governor, you two need to get together on the same page, because the lack of coordination, people are dying in my city.

O'BRIEN: That's two days ago you said?

NAGIN: They both shook. I don't know the exact day. They both shook their head and said, yes. I said great. I said everybody in this room is getting ready to leave. There was senators and his cabinet people. You name it. There were generals. I said everybody right now, we're leaving. These two people need to sit in a room together and make a doggone decision right now.

O'BRIEN: And was that done?

NAGIN: The president looked at me. I think he was a little surprised. He said, no, you guys stay here, we're going to another section of the plane and we're going to make a decision. He called me in that office after that. He said, Mr. Mayor, I offered two options to the governor. I said -- and I don't remember exactly what they were, two options. I was ready to move today. The governor said she needed 24 hours to make a decision.

O'BRIEN: You're telling me the president told you the governor said she needed 24 hours to make a decision? NAGIN: Yes.

O'BRIEN: Regarding what, bringing troops in?

NAGIN: Whatever they had discussed. As far as what the chain -- I was advocating a clear chain of command so that we could get resources flowing in the right places.

O'BRIEN: And the governor said, no, according to the...

NAGIN: She said that she needed 24 hours to make a decision. It would have been great if we could have left Air Force One, walked outside and told the world that we had this all worked out. It didn't happen and more people died.

END VIDEO CLIP)"

I also thought CNN did a good job at the beginning, and I can't say I've been monitoring them systematically for bias, but it does seem to be creeping in.

I caught an interview of former UN Ambassador Andrew Young, a New Orleans native, by Wolf Blitzer yesterday, and Wolf was trying to lure him into agreeing with black congressmen's allegations that racism was behind a slow response to Katrina.

To his credit, Young would not be drawn in.

Heck, why should he? Some idiot on t.v. with Mike Myers the other day (nbc, I think) named Kanyeah (sp?) went off about the war in iraq and concluded that the President is a murderer, all on live TV for a relief effort plug. Disgusting.

Governor Blanco was in over her head until she issued a shoot to kill order and hired Witt the former FEMA director.

I don't know about that. Witt was already on Team Blanco, played a role in the (failed) contingency plans, and is already in the MSM-enabled CYA/deflect position.

Dane,

I think that is worth a "copy and Paste":

NEW ORLEANS -- Two more Jefferson Parish officials are being drawn into the corruption probe dubbed Operation Wrinkled Robe, according to a newspaper report.

The Times-Picayune reports that investigators have issued subpoenas to Parish President Aaron Broussard and 24th District Judge Kernan "Skip" Hand.

The story says the subpoenas are related to political donations made by Bail Bonds Unlimited to Hand's campaigns.

Last month, Judge Alan Green was convicted of mail fraud as a result of the ongoing investigation.

He was caught by FBI video surveillance taking an envelope stuffed with money from a Bail Bonds Unlimited employee

This interview encapsulates EXACTLY what the problem is that state and WHY Hurricane Katrina became such a huge disaster there. Will anyone get it? Fat chance.

This guy's story sounds fishy.

They were able to talk to that officials mother for 4 days and none of them could hop in a boat and go pick her up?

I saw that interview and this guy was trying to absolve the LA Governor and blame this entirely on the Federal Government.

I figured he was a Democrat, but now the confirmation of it proves that this guy was put up to this. He was reading a script for pete's sake.

I am surprised, especially with the elected state officials, that they seem to forget that states are autonomous entities. The FEDS can't come in without the request of the Governor.

And even now, the Governor, apparently, keeps refusing to allow FED agencies to come in and do what needs to be done.

The Governor is apparently more concerned with trying to save her political career than in helping the people who need aid and assistance.

His story is fishy. Anytime a liberal doesn't give you a name you can verify, assume it to be untrue. If your friends mother died, wouldn't you say the poor woman's name or the name of your friend?

Young was actually quite good throughout the interview. A pleasant surprise. Now, if Wolf had interviewed Julian Bond . . .
