This was before Oprah showed up and Sean Penn sank. ;)

Thanks for the clarification -- it makes more sense to me now. I'm just a little tired of the lack of respect ASU seems to get from the sports world in general, a lot of it due to the fact that they can't seem to stay awake to watch the PAC-10 games.

No they're not invincible. Their talent is above everyone else though.

I had never heard of Lt. Gen. Honore before yesterday, but evidently he is quite the legend. After reading some of the posts about him, he sounds like a good man and fine officer. Any man/officer who is so concerned about his men is top notch in my book. It was just a surprise to me to hear an officer speak like that. Yes, I understand they will talk like that on the drill field, ball field, locker room, etc., but you don't usually hear an officer speaking publically like that.

I wonder how close to retirement he is? The Administration could use him to deflect some of these reporters' stupid, insulting questions.

As I said in my previous post, he certainly got everyone's attention -- especially mine. :-) I would love to see him debate Helen Thomas. ;-)

I have some respect for ASU. Ever since I attended the Fiesta Bowl in Jan 1983 - when they beat Oklahoma. :)

Wonder if he has a pearl handled pistol?

"They're IVORY handled pistols. Only New Orleans pimps carry pearl handled pistols."

So Cal would have been 7-3 if they played in the SEC last year.

Just heard the good general on a live press conf- some long-winded reporter: "General, would you please elaborate on what you're doing..blah..blah..blah..progress...and how this is different from your normal assignments"?

General Honore: "Usually we break things, now we're here to fix them".

HOOAH.

Yeah, looking at that line up of high school and junior college teams in the PAC 10 does that to me, sometimes, too. Just to be generous, though. I think they would go 7-3 in the big 12 as well. It is not just the SEC. And it is not saying that USC doesn't deserve to be National Champs. Maybe they do. They certainly beat Oklahoma last year, and that counts for something (just ask TCU!). It is just that they don't play any real teams during the season, unless ou count Notre Dame, who will get rated in the top 20 if they go 5-5 cause the press loves em so much. San Luis Obispo State just ain't my idea of a real powerhouse team to beat to prove you are national calibre.

You are completely out of touch with reality. The Big 12 is the Big 2, and Texas chokes at least one game every year (lucky for them Oklahoma's even worse this season). SC would go through the SEC like Sherman went through Georgia. Arkansas is going to learn the hard way in a week and a half.

I'd be sympathetic to the argument that USC doesn't play in a tough conference, but computer systems that look at who played who - basically a comprehensive look at common opponents - much as you are doing by comparing schedules to the Big 12, SEC - say that only Oklahoma was better during the regular season, and then we saw who was better "on the field" - as it should be. And, my, was USC better!

It would be hard to argue that USC was not the better team than OK. I would also be lying if I said the results of that game did not cost me 20 dollars. (I picked OK and gave 18 points). USC was clearly the better team.

May I weasel out of that one by pointing out that Auburn was my pick for USC opponent? Nah? Didn't think you would let me.

To be fair, I don't know if Auburn would have beaten USC. They were superb that night

My point is, still, that the Pac 10 is a weak conference, and a mediocre team looks like a winner, like a scrub oak looks compared to tumbleweeds.

When I logged on, I wondered if you would have posted.

I was sitting at a sports bar watching Wisconsin beat UNC (local team), Florida beat Tennessee (awesome game), USC annihilate Arkansas, and FSU beat Boston College (best game on TV last night). Cold Dos Equis and big screens all around, and my wife said "go, enjoy yourself!"

USC really did look awesome last night, and should be congratulated. You do realize, of course, that USC beat a team rated #5 of #6 in their DIVISION of the SEC (not the SEC, in their DIVISION of the SEC). Arkansas lost last week to VANDERBILT, that perinneal powerhouse who also beat mighty Wake Forest by 4 points.

As I said, USC looked very good last night, and may have looked as good as any team in the country. I will take back my comments about scheduling when more than half their teams have a positive won-loss records against other teams in the top 25.

Show me a schedule where they win convincingly over (pick 3....., crap, pick 2 and I will be quiet) Tenn, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, or you can add in FSU, Miami, Clemson, Ga Tech, or Texas. As it is, USC plays a total of zero teams in the top ten, and 3 teams presently listed in the top 25, now that mighty Fresno State has veiled to Oregon. So far, USC has run up big scores against Hawaii (HAWAII???? now THERE'S a schedule buster for you!) and a team ranked in the cellar of the weakest division in their conference. They looked very good against those teams. Lets see.....next week they play Oregon. That is a community college, right? No, sorry. My mistake. I guess they really are 1A.

Seriously, though, enjoy the win. USC looked very strong. As of right now, I would vote for them for #1. I just wished they played real teams more often.
