I just got off the phone with my son at Ft Campbell. His fiance is a 3rd Grade teacher. She spent her class time today discussing Katrina. What she thought would be an instructive talk with the students turned into a bad dream for her.
It seems the students had one thing on their mind(s). They wanted to know why President Bush hates black people. She was really shaken up. She couldn't believe they were serious..but after some more talk she learned the words of Kanye West had been imprinted on their young minds.
These are young children- worried their president hates black people. She tried hard to educate them about the facts in a calm way.
I had to post this as I am really speechless...
Well.. wait till they all watch Oprah today, they will KNOW he does.
And now it's implanted in their minds and nothing anybody can say will change their minds.
So sad.
Lets see---between Kanye, JJackson, Oprah....
They are trying their best to start an out and out race war and our kids are gonna be the ones hurt.
My granddaughters friends are almost equally black/white, and I hate to see 6 year olds taking on the HATE of these supposed grown-ups!

There were some photo shots of the President with some of the young black hurricane survivors. The children clung to him. Perhaps she can get pictures of these and show them to her class. Kids can relate to visuals.
Some of us have become the monsterous teachers of the past.

The celebrity culture has such an effect on young kids, and there's no way to unring the bell except through example and your son's finance's calm explanations.
