There's always one of "them" on every thread like this.

Agreed. I personally, would NEVER have went into that place UNARMED!
If sheltering in place, make sure that you have plenty of food for the pets or take them with you on the road. The wife did this when I was deployed and Hugo hit.

Looks more like he's the one who took the dog away and tossed it on the ground.

That is what I thought, they could have put the animals in some available area till Noah's Ark got there.

Saving one dog won't change the world, but saving one dog will change the world for that one dog!

Saving the dog will change one boy's world. And I will settle for that.

There were plenty of animal rescue workers meeting arriving refugees in Houston, and they were prepared to house animals in shelters and foster homes, where owners staying in human shelters could visit them. Refugees who got to Houston by unofficial means, and those who successfully smuggled pets onto the government-run bus convoy, were able to take advantage of those services. No one is suggesting that a mass human shelter like the Astrodome should allow pets.

Me too.
It is horrible.
Gotta go offline for a while.

They put them in a stairwell, but this officer didn't hand the dog off to anyone, he just tossed it on the ground and left it to try to get on the moving bus. Hopefully someone else picked up the dog and took it to the stairwell, for later pick-up by animal rescue workers. I hope the dog that has been found and is believed to be Snowball, really is.

Unfortunately in places like the Astrodome and other relief shelters it would be impossible to house the pets though I think some of the shelters have managed to house pets in pet shelters, in fact I think some have been set up especially for this.
The biggest worry is that many people will not evacuate because they have heard of people having to leave pets behind. I people knew that there were these shelters and had a way of ensuring the pet was taken to one I am certain a lot of them would evacuate.

I would rather deal with that than the animals in the superdome or convention center. Accommodations should be made, a separate area should be designated.. The animals should not be left to die.Pet friendly shelters in FL already function on those lines. Shelters are noramally schools with one or two classrooms assigned to pets and owners. Crates are mandatory and owners must take their dogs outside to do their business and cats must have a litterbox. All animals must be current on vaccinations, too. These kind of accomodations are already planned for in many FL counties.

The Humane Society said on FNC the other evening that this is something that must be addressed with future disasters what to do with the pets as people are putting their own lives at risk because they fear their animals will starve, drown or be put down.

There is a small convoy heading up from Pinellas County to assist with animal rescue, too. Mainly staff and volunteers from the local Humane Society and SPCA.

"But there's some confusion as to whether it's the same dog."I got a way to determine if it's the right dog. Stand back and say, "Here, Snowball! Come here, Snowball! You good little poochie-woochie, how about a rub on the wittle belly for such a good doggie..."
Hey, if the dog keeps walking, try "Muffin" or "Scooter". Either way, you'll never know until you try...
