Troops find grisly scenes in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Troops scouring New Orleans for survivors and victims reported finding at least 40 mutilated bodies in the Convention Center refugee center.
Arkansas National Guardsman Mikel Brooks told the New Orleans Times Picayune many of the dead were elderly, or showed signs of trauma.
"There's another one in the freezer, a 7-year-old with her throat cut," he said.
As the searches became more organized since the Aug. 29 onslaught of Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said repair crews had patched the ruptured levee along the 17th Street Canal and had begun pumping out water.
The failure of the levee system after the storm left about 80 percent of the city flooded up to 20 feet deep, and Corps officials said it would take nearly three months to drain some neighborhoods, CNN reported.
Deputy Police Chief Warren Riley told reporters that thousands of people -- many of them with pets -- are insisting on staying in what he called "a hazard."
"We advise people that this city has been destroyed. It has been completely destroyed," Riley said.
According to Fox News about an hour ago, 30% of the New Orleans police force has not been heard from in about a week. I wonder how many indictments and prosecutions there will be for crimes committed during the chaos. Heck, even BEFORE the hurricane was a blip on the radar screen, 42% of all serious crime in New Orleans was never prosecuted.
Close the city for good. Build refineries...make it a sea port...no neighborhoods no apartments..nothing. Make it for business ports and oil only.

If they want to keep the French Quarter for historical purposes then find the means. But don't build hotels all over the place for visitors. Ridiculous to throw some of the numbers I have heard at it.

Local authorities KNEW there would be problems with crime in the refuge centers. That's why they made everyone line up and get searched.
Did it ever occur to the Mayor or the Chief of Police that armed police should be stationed there to keep order?
The Mayor has recently complained that the NO police lacked ammunition. Did it ever occur to him or the Chief of Police that the police should have ammunition issued to them before this crisis came to a head? There was plenty of time to do it, and it would seem to be a fairly routine precaution to take.

I expect the race pimps and arsonists to start trying to cover up what actually happened in NO after the lights went out. It's hard to directly blame the fate of these terribly mutilated children and elderly on Bush. Damage control and hush ups are already ongoing on leftist web sites. If the emerging scenery will we bad enough, the media will also abruptly drop the whole subject.
With 40,000 potential suspects??, though there are some stories of the people turning on the perps and killing them with a mob action (at the other location not the dome)
