Exactly. The direct quote doesn't say that. It says many were elderly, etc.

By the way, UPI is no longer a trustworthy news wire. They pick up rumor from everywhere. They're the ones who ran the bogus story a few months ago about a supposedly Muslim marine claiming in a Saudi Arabian newspaper that the Saddam capture story was a hoax.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt. I would also assume bodies that have been sitting around for days in these conditions might appear rather "mutilated".

You're wasting your time. Freepers can be painfully gullible about MSM stories, as long as those stories seem to confirm what they want to believe. A lot of people are mainly here looking for an excuse to sit in judgement on other people. I've seen it over and over.

Six months from now, when there's been time to digest all the data, it will more than likely come out that there WERE rapes, murders, and robberies, but not as many as the more lurid stories would suggest. But by that time there will be something else, somewhere else, for people to be smugly outraged over.

It doesn't say there were only 40 bodies, just that there were at least 40 mutilated bodies found. I know there were a few that died in the 'Dome of less violent causes. Some were old and in poor health, at least 3 were babies who apparently died of heat stress and/or dehydration.
