MOSUL, Iraq -- A terrorist captured near the Syrian border last month had a computer "thumb drive" that contained planning information about the July 7 suicide bombings in London, according to a U.S. military officer.

Col. Robert Brown, commander of the 1st Brigade 25th Infantry Division in Mosul, said that the man was captured north of Qaim in western Iraq and that authorities had connected him to the al Qaeda terrorist network.

It is the first evidence of a link between the London bombs and terrorists in Iraq, but fits with other evidence of a growing presence in Iraq by al Qaeda, which has taken responsibility for the British attacks.

Col. Brown declined to discuss the specific nature of the information on the thumb drive -- a miniature data storage device that plugs into a computer's USB port -- but said it indicated al Qaeda involvement in the attacks on London's bus and subway system.

"I don't think anyone's done a good enough job explaining" the relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda, he said.

IMO, the President needs to give a prime time speech on national television outlining the numerous proven connections between al Qaeda and Iraq.......VERY clearly.

The left continues to scream the lie (abetted by their media allies) that Iraq is a diversion from the War on Terror, and all the facts to the contrary are ignored or buried.

"the President needs to give a prime time speech on national television outlining the numerous proven connections between al Qaeda and Iraq"

the networks wouldn't broadcast it.....

Another one for the good guys.

If we can finally catch the Zarqawi, I think Iraq will take a big turn for the good.

Wouldn't matter. Left will respond "there was no connection between Iraq/Qaeda until AFTER the war..." They always say that.

Two or three years ago, when Zarqawi's name was starting to get into the news, the word was he was deeply involved in terror cells in Europe. His involvement in the London bombings would not at all be a surprise.

I am sure that Kennedy and Kerry will be calling for his immediate release soon for lack of evidence. They will say it was planted on him.

What they will say is that the London bombing is because GB is in Iraq.

What I'm talking about is a major speech that clearly outlines the numerous links between Iraq and al Qaeda prior to and including the war.........and including the comings and goings of Zarqawi.

It would need to be advertised as a major speech on Iraq (without details leaking too soon) so the networks would cover it.

The facts are there. The media is now, and always will hide them, leaving the vast majority of Americans in the dark about this. The President could go a long way to make this crystal clear.

JMHO.

Must be a mistake. Pat Buchanan says there is no connection between Iraq and terrorists.

Single round to the back of the head.
Wrap in pork skin.
Photodocument and disseminate throughout the ME.
Include grave warning, "DO AS HE DID, DIE AS HE DID."

"found hear the border with Syria . . ." You mean he was found in Iraq - but, but, but, I thought Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism. (/sarcam)

Humor me.

The memory fails me.

Where was Zarqawi before the Invasion of Iraq by the US?

I'll answer my own question. Just found the answer (of course I had to look it up in Shadow War by Richard Miniter,

p 182, Appendix D " The Iraq-Al Queda Connection"

"Abu Musaab al-Zarqawi oversaw an Al Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan, Secretary Powell told the UN. His specialty was poisons.Wounded in fighting with US forces,he sought medical treatment in Baghdad in May 2002. When Zarqawi recovered, he restarted a training camp in northern Iraq. Zarqawi's Iraq cell was later tied to the Oct 2002 murder of Lawrence Foley, an official of the US Agency for International Development in Amman, Jordan. The captured assassin confessed that he received orders and funds from Zarqawi's cell in Iraq, Secretary Powell said. His accomplice escaped to Iraq....."

Appendix D is 7 pages of strictly Iraq-al Queda connections.

But why let facts get in the way..... (sarc).

Sorry if I made you start hunting. I had one of my many momentary lapses.
