Chavez's goal: 21st-century socialism
Firmas Press ^ | August 9, 2005 | Carlos Alberto Montane

Hugo Chávez is birthing. He said that Venezuela is giving birth to 21st-century socialism. What is that?...

Cuban model

Another lesson surely was more valuable to the Venezuelan officers: They understood exactly what the Cuban model is all about, the 21st-Century socialism that Lt. Col. Chávez is spawning. They realized that, in Cuba, the structure of authority consists of a dictator at the top, surrounded by military men who hold the political power, the control of repressive forces and the direction and management of the major enterprises of production.

It wouldn't be so bad if they stuck to starving and enslaving their own people. Unfortunately Dictators tend to take their act on the road.

Remember, "Nazi" is the German acronym for Nationalist-Socialist.

As long as Chavez puts the standard communist economic model into play, he's no threat. Contrast this to the Chi-Comms, who are making capitalist economic reforms while maintaining a hard-line dictatorship- just like Uncle Adolph did.

Chavez refers to his revolution as a "Bolivarian" Revolution after Simon Bolivar. What was Bolivar's goal? Uniting all of South America.

Aaah, just when we felt Castro and his grip on Cuba might be fading, along comes another.

Venezuela is rapidly becoming Cuba Part II.

Chavez seems hell-bent on it. We have another fight in the making.

Why Chávez seeks a clash with the U.S.

Carlos Alberto Montaner

It's obvious that Hugo Chávez is looking for a confrontation with the United States. He constantly insults President Bush, makes vulgar sexual allusions about Condoleezza Rice, threatens to suspend the supply of crude oil to the United States and wastes not a single chance to associate with the enemies of Washington, be they Iran or Moammar Gadhafi.

At the same time, Chávez funds and helps all subversive movements in Latin America, from Evo Morales' MAS, which is sniping at Bolivia's precarious democracy, to Colombia's communist narco-guerrillas.

Why the irresponsible behavior? It's obvious: Chávez needs a powerful enemy abroad to galvanize his own forces. The chavista leadership -- a gaggle of geese -- is an ill-conceived mishmash of communists, military men lacking in prestige, hot-headed radicals, Cold War zombies like Vice President José Vicente Rangel, and flunkies from the new and official economic class that feeds from the million-dollar oil revenues.

Nah. Serfs only had to pay the lord of the manor 25% of the crops.

Yep, that's right.

Chavez is even worse, if you add Venezuela's income tax (35%), plus confiscatory inflation (running at 35% plus), Value-added tax at 15% and outrageous import duties (in excess of 40%), I think living as serf would've been better.
