Seems like LtCol Becker read his history on the Marines in Vietnam with the CAP's winning the hearts and minds of the villagers by living with and fighting with them at the local level.

When you kill a bad guy he is going to be backfilled. But as you target these guys eventually they can't rebuild, and then you have real, no kidding security."

This is what goes on when we kill or capture one of Zarqawis second in commands.....some freepers can't grasp this concept.

""Anyone who comes to a counter-insurgency thinking it's about killing terrorists is missing the boat," said Becker.

"It's really about winning the people. You can kill all the terrorists but then you've pissed people off and created 100 more," he explained."

...

Excellent article. So many posters here seem to think that what we should be doing is flattenng the country - that the military's hands are tied by weak-willed liberals or concerns about how it would play out on TV screens around the world.

That's not the case. Fighting the insurgency in Iraq is not about overwhelming force.

I've always believed that the central front in Iraq revolves around the formation of the Iraqi National Army. It's a time-based competition. Will the US Forces be able to stand-up a credible Iraqi Army before the terrorists can demoralize the US homefront? That in a nutshell is the game. All else is peripheral.

Great comments, listmates.

There is a problem lurking in the shadows of Lt. Col. Bradley Becker's comments, and that's the endless funding for the jihadis.

Until the money is stopped, there will continue to be a steady flow of crazed terrorists into Iraq.

Follow the money, back to the sands of Arabia and Tehran, and eliminate the regimes that sponsor terror. Only then will this war be over.

REGIME CHANGE.

That's our mantra.
