Flying Tomatoes, Meatballs: 6 Arrested In Olive Garden Fight
The Denver Channel ^ | September 9, 2005 | Staff

Talk about your tossed salad and flying meatballs.

A night out at a local Olive Garden Restaurant landed six people in jail after two families who've had a long-standing beef with one another brawled inside the restaurant.

Valerie Baca, Lawerence Bettale Jr., Rene Bettale, Lawrence Bettale Sr. and two teens were arrested after an off-duty police officer used a Taser gun to control the fight.

Westminster police said two families who've been feuding were seated near one another Wednesday night and it came to a boiling point when one of the families was leaving and made a snide remark or gesture to the other family.

Police say bottles were broken, furniture was thrown, food was flying.

An off-duty police officer had just walked out of the door when the fight broke out so a person ran out to get him, said Stephanie Topkoff with Westminster Police Department.

The officer tried to tame the fighting families and eventually had to use his Taser gun, Topkoff said.

The group now faces charges of assault, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

Something is not right with this. First I've heard of Tasers being allowed as off-duty carry pieces, and I hope to the Good Lord above that the taser wasn't all he was carrying.

I heard these families really don't dislike each other. They've pulled this stunt before to get out of tipping and/or paying for their meals.

I have never ate at an Olive Garden, we don't have one around here, but people who travel to where they are rave about the food.

I am assuming they are cafateria grade Italian Cuisine.

LOL @ "Disturbance at Orange Julius"

Would have had to snicker if I'd been there.

Mama Baca looks like son Batelle and could be the ex wife of Pops Batelle and Young female Batelle who looks like no one else could be barely legal wife to Pops Batelle.

Just guessing.

"Pseudo Mob in a Pseudo Italian Restaurant."

Yep, they look like I-ties to me.
Being from the south, I resent the stupid post earlier
that called them rednecks.
I know many "rednecks" and most are better then the snobs
that laugh about them.

I am assuming they are cafateria grade Italian Cuisine.

In Project Management grade is a category or rank to distinguish items that have the same functional use but do not share the same requirements for quality. Cafeterias in a grade school are functionally the same as cafeterias in large corporations but the corporate cafeterias have much higher quality requirements.

A typical Olive Garden pasta is a gummy ball of starch on a plate despite the fact that as you walk into the restaurant 3 or 4 chefs are supposedly making various kinds of fresh pasta you will be served if you order pasta. The pasta makers aren't making pasta at all. They simply take the fresh strands of pasta and reprocess them over and over again for show.

Do you think there might have been alcohol involved?

LOL. That's my standard mantra when I'm reminded of something stupid I've done. I simply say, "Was I drinking?" Everything is magically explained.

Thanks that is what I figured.

On top of that a serving of pasta is like 1/2 or 1c cooked which is not very big but if you load your plate up you are getting multiple servings of starch which unless you have a marathon to run later your body can not use up and in us older folk who's pancreas is sluggish that glucose just sits around in the blood stream with no insulin receptors to help get it delivered into the various cells of the body. So the blood gets sticky and over time you stroke out or have a heart attack. MMMMM Gotta have some more of that Olive Garden.

What an appealing name Olive Garden for a resteraunt that serves that kind of meal. Oh and the eye service of a "Chef" cooking it up.

We have a place that you put all the types of meats ect. on your dish and then some guy cooks it Asian syle. Hah People were loving it and I said hey this is frozen thawed food, yeah buy the cooks are cool. No thanks. I am eating crap but the fancy cooks are cool. Mongolian Grill is what that was.

Mongolian Grill is what that was.

Your Mongolian Grill comment reminded me a new chain of Italian restaurants, called The Macaroni Grill, that are opening around the country. I ate at a Macaroni Grill in Colorado Springs. The place was packed and the pasta (Angel Hair with Shrimp) was excellent. When we left the Macaroni Grill we passed an Olive Garden about 50 yards down the road with a parking lot full of empty spaces. Give them a try.
