Munich Terrorist Hits Out at Spielberg

Steven Spielberg has been criticized by the only surviving Palestinian terrorist behind the massacre at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany, because the director failed to consult him over his new movie dramatization of the tragic events. Mohammed Daoud was a member of terror group Black September in the early 1970s and was responsible for the deaths of 11 Israelis in Munich's Olympic Village. He has been on the run ever since. But Daoud is so angry with Spielberg's supposedly pro-Israel stance in new film Munich, he contacted news agency Reuters to put forward his side of the story. He says, "If someone really wanted to tell the truth about what happened he should talk to the people involved, people who know the truth. Were I contacted, I would tell the truth. (Israel) carried out vengeance against people who had nothing to do with the Munich attack, people who were merely politically active or had ties with the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization)."

So we don't get lost in semantics, what was his roll in the Kerry film? He may not get credit for making it, but I have found numerous articles that site his involvement. Call him up and see what the deal is......

The Star Wars thing was a guess. I failed pop culture but that doesn't stop me from trying.

As for his 'affection' for Castro I don't know if merely visiting there makes the cut. If we were talking about Oliver Stone then yes...after all he made a movie about the guy!

Daoud should take heart at Tony Kushner's involvement. He has gone on record as saying Israel shouldn't exist, so there's at least one guy on the projecting fighting for the other side.

Steven Spielberg grabbed a lot of press in connection to this past week's Democratic National Convention due to his association with a short campaign film for presidential nominee John Kerry.

'A Remarkable Promise' is a nine minute film by documentarian James Moll. Moll was suggested to the Kerry-Edwards campaign by none other than Steven Spielberg, who had previously served as executive producer to Moll on such films as "The Last Days" (for which Moll won an Academy Award), "Price for Peace," and "Burma Bridge Busters." Spielberg and Moll have also worked together on various documentaries for the Survivors of the Shoah Foundation.

'Promise' gives voters a view into the background of John Kerry through photos, footage and interviews with the presidential nominee, his family, his friends and colleagues. The film is narrated by Morgan Freeman ('Amistad') with music by Nathan Wang ('Price for Peace,' 'Voices from the List').

The film has received a lot of press (for obvious reasons), most of them mentioning the Spielberg connection. It should be noted that some sources are stating that Spielberg directed or produced the film (certainly a disservice to the Oscar-winning Moll), but according to a press release from the Kerry-Edwards campaign, Spielberg officially served as "adviser" to the project. Some recent unconfirmed sources have stated that Spielberg helped with the last minute editing on the production to ensure its readiness for its premiere on the final night of the Democratic National Convention.

No, I'm talking about another documentary I saw about it. It was called "One Day in September" and Spielberg had nothing to do with it. The documentary gave a tremendous amount of time to the Palestinian "cause". In one part there was a German negotiator telling us how he could very easily see himself being friends with the Palestinian terrorist negotiator. The specific part that I'm talking about is when the documentary showed us an interview with the sole surviving terrorist and lamented how he was still in hiding and how it is somehow unfair after all these years.

Overall though, I'd say that it was a good documentary. There was alot in there that I had no idea about. I had no idea that the German authorities at the time were totally incompetent and visibly more concerned about not disrupting the continuation of the games rather than saving the Israeli hostages. And how the rescue attempt at the airport might very well have been successful if only the German authorities hadn't had far too few snipers in position and "forgotten" to call in the armored vehicles that were to be used. I also didn't know about the most disgusting aspect of the German response to the situation which was the German governments collaboration with the Palestinians to free the captured terrorists in a staged airline hijacking which took place not long afterwards. It is shown that the German government freed the terrorists because they wanted to avoid future terrorist attacks in their country. I guess some things never change.
