Received this via email from Mrs. NerdDad. This is one of the best photo essays I've seen of this terrible tragedy. It's a huge collection of photos so I chose to link directly to the gallery rather than steal all his pictures and post them directly.

The guy who created it is a Central American immigrant living in the French Quarter. It contains some very good comments with the photos.

Be sure to catch his disdain for the media in the later pictures, and particularly Brian Williams. The man has FReeper potential.

Anyone else trolling the depths of the internet to see the nuts who are coming up with all kinds of conspiracy theories about the hurricane?

I just read that the "Zionists" bombed the levee. This is the most mindnumbing/rotting crap i've ever run into - and it's all over the place.

I only bring it up because before too long you're going to hear McKinney or some other DIMbulb DUmmy spouting it.

here's an example

http://cytations.blogspot.com/2005/09/mass-murder-by-drowning-unexplained.html

Put on some galoshes before clicking that - it's a stinker.

Figured you guys would like this guy's perspective on NO and the media. He made some awesome pictures and the comments are cogent and in places a riot.

Yuppers...kewl! Saw some pics from bourbon street of places I recognize from webcams.

.

Here's some direct linky goodness

FWIW I 'm still trying to figure if this webcam is LIVE or archived. If it's archived it's in incredible sync with real time. Doesn't always load or update though, Bourbon Vieux webcam

New Orleans Resident's Photo Show

Excellent photo essay on the storm, good shots of changing conditions and excellent documentation of the timeline of the flooding and relief efforts.

At the risk of appearing jaded, crass, or completely out of touch:

I have this "concert" for the Gulf Coast on the tube and it is coming across like a funeral dirge. Is this some sort of eulogy for the American spirit?

While the source and scope of the tragedy was quite unique, I'll never forget the welling of tears and glorious rage I felt upon witnessing The Who's performance (and many others) after Sept. 11.

Sadness is right and proper; surrender in the face of tremendous misfortune is someone else's business. I'm looking for some inspiration.

These fools are as toxic as the water floating through N.O.

One can hope, LMAO.

It's definitely high season for MOONBATS.

The mere fact that McKinney is a DUmbocRAT with a loud mouth makes her almost as useful as Dean. IMHO.

Very interesting and more than a little bit disturbing. The water began to rise and the people sat around and looked at it. The water got knee deep and all hell broke loose and it wasn't a rush to get out of the city.

That's what I got from it. The water wasn't all that deep for a window of time. People could have started gathering together and getting to higher ground on foot but they chose to stay and loot.

Thanks for making a clickable link. I actually hoped that the posting software would do that for me. I know how, I just had a lazy streak and didn't check my work well enough.

I know it isn't PC to say so but a vast majority of those people deserve at least some the blame for their own suffering. I see a lot of people with no survival instinct in those photos.

I just finished viewing this essay, which I received from a friend.

Thanks for posting this . . . I was looking for somewhere on FR to make this available.

Did you notice the series of photos from the Convention Center. Within five minutes he realized he needed to get out of NO. Was it really because he was white and all the others there were of another color, who knows. But the fact of the matter is, he came to the conclusion very early that it was not in his best interests to stay at the CC. He needed to get out and fast.

It is still baffling to me that the thousands of people stranded at the CC did not take any initiative of their own to do the same thing.

Great pictures no matter his politics.
