The city of New Orleans followed virtually no aspect of its own emergency management plan in the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans officials also failed to implement most federal guidelines, which stated that the Superdome was not a safe shelter for thousands of residents.

New Orleans Ignored Its Own Plan Bush's fault, of course.
To: Daralundy
A state-of-the-art mobile hospital developed with Homeland Security grants to respond to disasters and staffed by 100 doctors and paramedics was left stranded in Mississippi because Louisiana officials would not let it deploy to New Orleans. Red Cross officials say the organization was well positioned to provide food, water and hygiene products to the thousands stranded in New Orleans. But the state refused to let them deliver the aid.
Aaaaarrrrgh ....
At least this is finally being reported in the MSM, though. Let's see if any of this info makes it into Hillary's precious commission.

"Confusion reigned in Katrina's aftermath. A state-of-the-art mobile hospital developed with Homeland Security grants to respond to disasters and staffed by 100 doctors and paramedics was left stranded in Mississippi because Louisiana officials would not let it deploy to New Orleans."
Another one of those missing links, either carefully avoided or never even looked into by the LSM, because then that idiot Governor would have had to recieve the public's rath, and the LSM was having none of that.

"Hillary's Commission" doesn't yet exist, and if the GOP leadership of the Senate have one ball between them, she never will.
That means the odds are about even, or slightly worse...

Washington Times headline impresses the City was at fault, but lists state (Blanco) failures.
Conservatives blame city officials - of one effected city. Libs go after FEMA. Blanco kept clean. When Blanco later complains Fed money isn't given freely to State coffers MSM will blast Bush as insensitive, political.
Democratic money elite plans smoothly sailing.

Look-let's face it-it's all GW Bush's fault. The evacuation plan would have worked if Bush had not had the Dept. of Def shoot down the space ship that Louis Farrakhan and the infamous Rita X have talked about. That space ship was the REAL evacuation plan.
To: Redbob
I had read that Hillary's commission was supposed to investigate the Federal governments response to the disaster only. If this is true you can bet that no matter how culpable state & local officials were even if blocking the Feds that those items wont be 'relevant' and not investigated. Only Federal govt errors & mistakes, and I think we all know who will get the blame for them.

[The plan does not say how such an evacuation should be executed, but states that a full evacuation of the city would take 72 hours, and that the city knows that there are "approximately 100,000 citizens of New Orleans [who] do not have means of personal transportation."
The guidelines of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which has little jurisdiction to act on its own but is designed to work with local authorities, suggests that local evacuation plans "coordinate the use of school buses and drivers to support evacuation efforts."
Neither New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin nor Mrs. Blanco ordered buses to take people out of the city before the storm. Two days after the storm hit, the governor issued an order for buses to roll, but by then hundreds of buses in New Orleans were underwater and useless. ]
About says it all.

And Stone Philips of NBC just finished his "report" on what when wrong in New Orleans (a propaganda piece to shift blame to FEMA) with final recommendations and warnings by His Royal Mayor Nagin. I cannot believe America has digressed so low. I worry about the possibility of God's Wrath on this modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah.

One of the most amazing things is that it appears that our local officials are not or will not take terrorist attacks seriously either. It would have been very convenient to strike us in the midst of another calamity such as a natural disaster.
I'm somewhat surprised that we haven't seen or heard a tape from bin laden or his cohorts commenting about the flooding in NO.
After viewing this photo essay it does cause one to ask what happened. The timespan between Katrina and the flooding.

Sorry, I don't know, but I had thought the number was at least 100,000 from various reports that I have read. Today, some agency announced that everyone who "wanted to leave" has been evacuated. I assume that included this elderly citizen: :O)

Rita, myself and Louis had the space ship ready but Michael Brown of FEMA had the Air Force hit us with a cruise missile and we had to go back to the "black hole" to get repairs.
To: cajungirl
...and straight to the (several) point(s). I am glad they identified the following details:
+ evacuation requires 72 hours,
+ Governor alone has power to "carry out" evacuation,
+ CEMP predicts problems moving people who lacked resources,
+ City/State needed to execute the evacuation,
+ FEMA had long ago urged the City NOT to use the Superdome as a shelter, and
+ the Red Cross was barred entry into the City.
I sincerely hope (but doubt) this gets legs.

My guess Hillary will let this die on the vine, before that happens.
The Democrats don't want the facts to come out.
But it too late, most the public is aware that its not the Federal Government, but the locals that screwed this up.

The more we know and the longer we consider what happened it seems improbable that this was unplanned chaos and incompetency. Planned chaos makes more sense of the facts. Motive? Rid the city of all the "undesirables", dump their costs on others, and make tons of money rebuilding a new city with no derelicts, at least at first.
Democrats and their buds get rich, the Republicans and Bush get the blame. That connects the dots better than anything else.

The MSM complicity in "the story" was evident this morning as the NBC man in New Orleans was interviewing the LA Lt Governor and the only thing the NBC guy wanted to know was how bad did the Lt Gov think the early FEMA response was - the evacuation, the Red Cross supplies waiting to go to Superdome on Tuesday - not allowed in by the LA Gov, the Gov late call-up of the Nat Guard, the mobile hosp from Miss not allowed to go in - those were not NBC questions for the Lt Gov. They aren't part of the NBC story.

I watched part of the "Stoned" Phillips Dateline special. I found it interesting that the city had DVD's to give to the residents of New Orleans that explained the evacuation plan. Were they going to provide TV's and DVD players to the poor residents so they could watch it?
