A poster on Little Green Footballs found anti-Bush postings by this Murdoch guy online. He's an LA lefty. I'm not so sure it's a coincidence. He's awfully vehement about not changing anything in the design.

That about does it for me.

Change the design, and while you're at it, fire the designer, just on general principle. And make sure privately, one-on-one, that he gets it that we got it, and that's why he's canned: for being a Left Coast smartass.

Sounds like a nice idea, but I think there's something to simplicity, which speaks loudest.

It's the site of a victory in the war against terror, and I would use the standard iconography of military monuments: a solitary white pillar, good and tall, with an angel ("winged victory", if ACLU complains) on the top, standing on a very solid, preferably granite-cored, dado of light-colored stone with appropriate inscriptions on all four faces. Something like that could last for 2,000 years.

No metal to rust or corrode, no marble or concrete to crumble and erode, just solid, hard, incorruptible stonework.

Please remove my redundant posting on #104, thanx.

It wouldn't post and wouldn't post, so I thought maybe I'd forgotten to hit "post" before refreshing.......

"Look like this is Teresa Heinz' doing... "

The Red Crescent is the Muslim equivalent of the Red Cross....rescuing those who need it, and obtaining blood donations.

Yeah. This is sick. Even Heinz Ketchup is red.........

"chapel separate from the building and a reflecting pool surrounding...."

For ablutions, no doubt, so you can wash your feet before going in to 'pray.' By chance, does the whole thing orient toward Mecca?

If this thing goes through I hope enough of the citizenry rises up against it, vandalizes it, blows it up whatever. This is ridiculous...

Wait what are you talking about. Hasn't you heard, the President of the United States says its a religion of PEACE.

Really do you think the President will ever ever back track on that? What would it take? An attack on London? No. A failure of any of the 1.2 BILLION Muslims ever to issue a Fatwa of death on Osama like they issued on Salmon Rushdie? No.

What would it take?

Yep, you're right. Personally I doubt that whoever designed this was so twisted they intentionally meant this as an insult to the victims of 9/11. But it is certainly in highly questionable taste to include a memorial feature that can be interpreted as an Islamic symbol - even if that crescent would actually look pretty impressive.

Do we have to ban crescents? No, of course not. But including them in 9/11 memorials seems dumb and insensitive. Personally, I'd leave it up to the families to decide.

This map shows crescent's orientation in relation to Mecca. Do you still think the Islamic symbolism is unintentional?

(scratches head) If that red line is perfectly bisecting the crescent then you're right - it would seem intentional.

Who the f*** designed this thing?

An altar to ISLAM will be built in USA....UNLESS YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Mark of Islam to be permanently etched on Flight 93 Site!!!

Absolutely insulting! What will you do about it???

Final Design Announced
The design for the permanent Memorial for Flight 93 was announced on September 7, 2005 amid overwhelming support . .

So the mark of the Jihadists will forever emblazon our landscape. Is it time to cry for America yet...???????????? This design seems to be a fitting memorial for the Muslims who died aboard Flt 93. The hijackers whose ashes are fused into the shale with those of their victims, of all the shapes, in all of geometry, they pick the symbol of Muslim power, THE CRESCENT!!!

Why not a monument of the passengers beating the crap out of the hijackers?

"When it comes to a memorial, all mankind sympathizes," he said." The idea of the Crescent of Embrace, Murdoch said, is to be a gesture of healing and bonding.

Muslims didn't/don't sympathize - THEY consider this to have been a great victory!

This is like making a holocaust memorial in the shape of a swastika. Absolutely disgusting. I think is a slap in the face of every solider that is fighting terrorism now. And a shameful way to honor those that have died in this fight.

Recognize it for what it is....

A commemoration for those who bravely died in their fight to expand Islam!

Fouad El Bayly, leader of the Islamic Center of Johnstown, said the crescent isn't a holy symbol, but one identified with the lunar Muslim calendar.

I'm sure the Islams are laughing in the streets about this one. Wow!

They are not laughing, they are emboldened though.

Sorry Valin. That kind of garbage is only going to get our country destroyed. To defeat the terrorists, we must view the entire religion as our enemy, because their new recruits come from this population. Why are reports that 80 to 90 percent of all American mosques have become radicalized? Why have not any prominent imams in this country, Saudi Arabia and/or Iran have not issued fatwas condemning Al Qada? All patriotic Americans need to open their eyes and load our weapons and eradicate this unholy religion from our country before we lose thousands more to future attacks. Remember fellow patriots, this a Judeo-Christian country. Islam can not live side by side with us. Islam is not compatible to democracy!
