"So, maybe some day you'll want to get a dog and you'll consider saving a life and adopt from your local animal shelter."

I have been kicking around the idea of being a "foster parent" for a pet. I have some friends who do this from time to time.

They take animals in until they can find a good home for them.

I like the idea of having different pets around. It would keep some variety in my life, thats for sure. I am just worried I would get attached to them and they would never leave. But it is a good way to have a pet and you can always take a break between pets if needed.

It's worth it. Most of mine are rescues of one type or another. Even one of my big birds came from a bad situation. But what they give you is sooooo needed....Unconditional love, buddies who make you laugh and well, you just get a whole lot more laid back ;).

What's a little dog and cat hair? You mean the cockatoo just scalloped the edge of the table? Kitty paw prints on my car? Whatever. :)

Cats are tough. Our Stuffy catches and eats blue-tailed lizards, bugs, mice, squirrels and who knows what else. She has made it known that she does not really HAVE to have us, but that we are lucky to have HER instead. Only tuna will do besides her dry food, but she isn't hung up on any of our food offerings.

Spread these around. Besides the ASPCA, the obvious, these are good:

Petfinder.com

Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association

Hi,

Pet "foster parents" are urgently needed, at least in my area. If you can do that, you'll be really helping. I can't, it's not for me. I would get attached and not let go of the dog and end up with 20 dogs.

That is such a sweet mental picture. My young (almost 4)dog Harm (Lt. Cmdr. Harmon Rabb) is an 85 pound Malamute/Siberian Husky/Lab cross. He loves his squeaky stuffed animals, too. When I ask him where his baby is, he runs to get the current favorite, a squeaky white lamb with red ears and legs. LOL! He is such a baby himself. I don't know why some people are afraid of him.

I can't, it's not for me. I would get attached

Tell me about it!
I fostered a puppy and went through hell deciding to keep her not, as I already have a alpha dog
I fended off all until I found her a "dog dad" who she has rapped around her paw!

"I would get attached and not let go of the dog and end up with 20 dogs."

And this is exactly what I fear as well. : )
