Mary Landrieu: School Bus Failure Bush's Fault

Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 10:27 p.m. EDT Mary Landrieu: School Bus Failure Bush's Fault

It was the Bush administration's fault that hundreds of city school buses weren't dispatched to evacuate the hurricane-battered residents of New Orleans two weeks ago before floods swamped the city, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu said Sunday.

Asked on "Fox News Sunday" why New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin failed to follow the city's evacuation plan and press the buses into service, Landrieu blamed Bush administration cuts in mass transit funding.

"Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane," she said. "And it's because this administration and administrations before them do not understand the difficulties that mayors . . . face." Landrieu then added: "In other words, this administration did not believe in mass transit. They won't even get people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out."

Saying she was unwilling to criticize Louisiana officials, the Louisiana Democrat insisted that Mayor Nagin's evacuation efforts had been a smashing success.

"Because the mayor evacuated the city, we had the best evacuation . . . of any evacuation I've seen. I'm 50 years old; I've never seen one any better," Landrieu told FNS.

That prompted FNS host Chris Wallace to remind: "But there were a hundred thousand people left in the city."

Landrieu once again blamed the White House, saying:

"They did [have] a hundred thousand people left in the city because this federal government won't support cities to evacuate people, whether it's from earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes. And that's the truth."

"Besides, Bush hid the keys to all the busses!"

I KNEW there had to be a logical explanation. < /sarcasm >

And that's the truth. That statement coming from a rat politician is about a believable as a used car salesman telling you he's honest.

It's like my Dad always taught me, when somebody starts a sentence with "I've got to be honest with you...", you can bet they aren't being honest.

Please forgive me for asking as I can't locate my Handbook on Political Correctness, but are we allowed to make fun of the mentally ill caused by generations of in-breeding?

That sure doesn't say much for all those city employees. She sure knocked them bad. So all these city employees are a bunch of loafers and they can't get any work out of them.

"I think you have the answer to the next evacuation. Just tell the Dems all the people they bus out can vote when they get off the bus."

.

.

I'm truly amazed that someone didn't think of this sooner.

"Landrieu blamed Bush administration cuts in mass transit funding."

Here the liberals go again with their "cuts in funding" being the issue. I guess Nagin's incompetence wasn't at all to blame.

They don't have any explanation for how the money was spent either. All they have is spin . . . and its pretty thin spin at that. Racism is their trump card and they'll keep trying to drive that wedge. This has been such a dispicable episode. It makes it hard not to lose faith.

What's the feminine of "moonbat"?

Moonbatieu?

BTW, isn't her corrupt ex-mayor father called "Moon" Landrieu?

Hmm, we may be on to something here.

school buses apparently were deemed demeaning or something by Mayor Nagin after the fact, because they lacked air conditioning and did not have bathrooms

Ah yes, so it was much better to send everyone to an un-airconditioned Superdome where the toilets backed up and people were breathing in the stench of raw sewage. /sarc

Great post, btw.

I love your idea too.

That interview was infuriating. These people cannot continue to get a pass on their ridiculous claims.

"I knew Demorats didn't believe in state's rights...I just didn't know they would take it this far."

I heard Blanco herself admit that she didn't want to give the federal government that much power when the president WANTED to intervene, so as far as I'm concerned, the biggest part of the burden falls on her shoulders. These idiot democRATs thought that all they had to do once they were in office was to sit back and think up ways to separate working people from their money to misappropriate for their own pet projects (not the least of which is their own reelection campaigns), and to enjoy the perks and power that their office affords them. Imagine their surprise to discover that they are actually expected to possesss some leadership qualities and to EARN their fat paychecks.

Just think. If the Bush Admin had provided more funding for mass transit, there would have been two hundred more buses in New Orleans sitting in flood waters, useless.

They claimed he stole the bus for one thing.

Inasmuch as there are NOPD cruisers likewise in Houston, driven there by NOPD officers who did NOT return and assist in the emergency, I think any prosecutor alleging "theft" has a serious sanity problem to address. This is not to say that one or more might try to cause that young man grief, but I suspect any such attempt would not only be extremely stupid, but downright hazardous to the prosecutor who attempted it...

Every municipal worker in the country needs to take note. Landrieu stated that the city could not depend on municipal workers to drive the buses or anything else because the city can't even get them to work on a sunny day never mind prior to an impending hurricane. Therefor Bush is at fault because according to her every municipal worker across the country is not dependable and Bush should have known that.
