Steyn does another fine job pointing out how ridiculous some people are.

I believe Bush's biggest mistake was to not get Joe public more actively involved in the war on terror. That is why it is more like the war on drugs to most people.

If a war against a bunch of religious fanatics who are trying to kill us isn't "popular," what kind is?

Democrats are great at PR,they are on the same page, and they speak loudly and in volumes.Republicans and the Bush Administration are terrible at PR.They assume the public is smarter than they truly are. They always are too little too late. You think they would have learned by now.

Sadly, based on recent approval ratings some Bushies are turning their backs on him because they think he is not there for them in their time of need but this is akin to turning your back on God when he doesn't answer your prayer.

W's communication skills are horrible. He should bring back Ari Fleischer and Karen Hughes (she was a terrific speech-writer for W) and many of the resources Ronnie had. W is at a loss in an impromptu Q&A because he's thinking... and being too PC. Rummy and Dick don't screw around with this PC crap. They get to the point. W needs more face-time-spine.

BTW, I love W, but he needs to start bitch-slapping a bunch of bozos who have been nipping at his heels for years.

He could start slowly by telling his press corps that that ugly bitch commie, Hele Thomas is not allowed in the White House, nor on any Federal Republic prooperty; or she will be arrested for trespassing. (only in my dreams and not a legal solution). However, he could sequester her from a briefing room.

He's talking about people like Michael Moore and a lot of other people mostly on the left who claim the war on terror is a scam Bush set up to enrich his friends. There are also a lot of people who were so far from New York and Washington they never felt threatened by 9/11.It's been four years since the last attack on our soil but if we learned anything from 9/11 it's that the terrorist think long term and are patient.Americans on the other hand are busy with their lives and usually they live in the moment.

"If a war against a bunch of religious fanatics who are trying to kill us isn't "popular," what kind is?"

What I find sadly interesting about this is after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7 1941 it was not forgotten even half a century later. The september 11, 2001 attack barely makes the radar screen these days.

What is wrong with this picture?

No, he doesn't. Doing what he's done has won him three elections: 2000, 2002, and 2004. It'll win again in 2006.

I don't think that the America being portrayed in the MSM and on TV bears any resemblance to the real America. I live in "flyover country" and 9-11 and the war in Iraq is still on the minds of the people here. I spend the majority of my workday on the Navajo and Hopi reservations. Those people haven't forgotten. The reservations are heavily Democratic so the number of pickups I see running around with Bush bumperstickers is really surprising. Prior to 9-11, you wouldn't have seen any.

Sadly, I must agree with you. If the people are kept out, they won't stay bought-in, so to speak. Without popular "buy-in," the whole concept of a "War" is kaput!!!

Many times I have felt that Carl Rove was about as lucky as he was any kind of genius. I absolutely think his "genius" stunk in his handling of CA, or the attempt to reach out to hispanics and blacks with ignoring the border and trying to out-pander the Demonicrats.

It just ain't working!!!

There is always hope. But more people should remember what happened on 9/11. And for some reason, that escapes me, they don't.

Uhhhh. I don't understand. W ran in 2000 and 2004, so I guess I'm really stupid given your dates. Soooo, how is W going to be running for the 2006 POTUS spot, or the 2008 POTUS? The Constitution effectively says that his tenure as POTUS will have expired on 01/19/08. The next day the Beast will take oath of office.

And Stainman can use the Oral Office Sink again. (puking again)

You're forgetting about Bush's personal campaigning for several Senate candidates in 2002, campaigning which boosted them over the top. He used the same tactics then as he did now: he let the Dems and media (but I repeat myself) spout their BS and didn't directly counter it.

In poker, a player will sometimes goof up so badly that he gets angry and can't play properly--this is called "steaming," as in "this guy is steaming mad." What do the other players at the table do? Back off and let the guy self-destruct. That's what Bush is doing with the steaming media, the steaming Dems, and the steaming liberals. Try to understand that. Bush knows what he's doing.

THANK YOU! I'm not a poker player. I'm a straight up, in your face kind of guy. I think I should watch Kenny Rodger in 'The Gambler' again.

Cheers. Time for beddie-bye.... snoozin' soon
