Poll says Virginia opposes publicly funded day laborer sites

WASHINGTON The issue of immigration and sites for day laborers may play a big part in the Virginia governor's race. A Washington Post poll says 56 of voters don't think that taxpayers should fund centers where day laborers can assemble to look for work. When voters were asked about centers being used by workers in the country illegally, the poll says opposition was even stronger.

That view supports the one held by Republican Jerry Kilgore, who has said that he would opposed funding for the sites. Democrat Tim Kaine has said he will support decisions made by local officials.

The town of Herndon recently voted to establish a regulated site for day laborers on public land, but that decision quickly brought legal challenges from town residents.

The poll finds that a slight majority of northern Virginia residents support using public money for the centers.

Choose or be chosen for - If you wait until 2007 or 2008, it'll be too late.

I wish there had been more of an outpouring of decent against the day labor site in Arlington County. Then again, it is only surpassed by the City of Alexandria in the amount of loony leftest that occupy its environs.

Is There A Backbone In The House?

Another example is that of border security and illegal immigration.

Republicans are supposed to be tough on terror, but when it comes to the thousands of miles of unprotected borders, Republicans are playing politics while the security of America is at stake.

To fight a real war on terror, government officials must make it as tough as possible for terrorists to enter the country illegally.

Yet, whenever some Republicans come forward and talk about fighting illegal immigration and increasing border security, other Republicans are backing down under fear of being called "racist" or "insensitive."

Perhaps Republican legislators need to increase the calcium in their diets so they can grow a backbone.

Instead of the image of tough legislators fighting for conservative values and issues, the images that come to mind more often than not when thinking of Republicans in Washington are those of a family of jellyfish.

Please - let's accentuate the positive:

A Washington Post poll says 56 of voters don't think that taxpayers should fund centers where day laborers can assemble to look for work. When voters were asked about centers being used by workers in the country illegally, the poll says opposition was even stronger.

This trash always gets my blood boiling, and when the media and politicians lump illegal and legal into one category...

First, illegals should be tossed out. Now if only there were some sort of infrastructure for legal workers to find a job. Well there's the classified ads, but that's too obvious. Maybe the offices we dump money into every year that are dedicated to finding people a job. I went to one(heck I'm paying for this trash, might as well use it) and they have a plethora of resources to getting you a job. From resume building, free extra learning classes, to interview training and on and on. Why would you duplicate all that in a building dedicated to keeping people on the low income scale as well as discouraging them from doing anything more with their lives other than working for 50 bucks a day and a free cup of coffee for digging a hole.

The article here doesn't mention it, but that "support" among Northern Virginia voters (50%) falls to 34%(with 61% opposed) when they are told that "some of the day laborers were in the country illegally."

When are you people gonna get it through your thick, Neanderthal skulls that it don't make no difference what the voters think?

This is all about "official" power. And Hispandering. And ramming it down your throats. And ignoring the will of the people.

You people who don't want this "regulated site for day laborers" are just a bunch of racists!

I'm sorry, Gabz, but I'm voting for Russ Potts.

I am sick and tired of politics as usual with neither the GOP nor the Dems standing for anything but an agenda that moves forward every single decade regardless of whom is elected. This is the first year that I've told the GOP campaign, "No, sorry," to their request for campaign work.

We have to start somewhere to change the system and the local level is the place, Governorship, school boards, county, city, state.

No kidding. Would anyone want to live , or run a business next to one of these sites? I would suggest any city council that wants one place it next to city hall.

Why should there be taxpayer funded sites for day laborers? There are already plenty of private companies that do just that – they are usually called “temps”, but many hire by the day to fill menial labor and other jobs. Should our government compete directly with the private sector?

I'm sorry, Gabz, but I'm voting for Russ Potts.

And if he wins I will be sending you my increased tax bills - have you seen the tax increases he is proposing for his transportation programs????? Cranking up the sales tax another penny? Tripling the cigarette tax? Upping income tax on those earning over $100,000?

IMO Russ Potts and his kind are the problem - not part of the solution.

I would suggest any city council that wants one place it next to city hall.

Better yet - IN city hall. that would save all kinds of taxpayer money.

When it comes to illegal aliens, since when does it matter what the public wants? The businesses and the politicians they own will do what they want anyway.
