RICHMOND, Va. -- One week after she walked out of her dorm room to give her roommate privacy with a boyfriend, a 17-year-old college student remains missing--and increasingly anxious authorities have called in the FBI for help.

Virginia Commonwealth University freshman Taylor Behl hasn't been heard from since she hastily departed her room last Monday night with her car keys and a credit card.

Her roommate reported her missing to campus police around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

There has been no activity on her credit cards or bank accounts since Monday, police said. Calls to her cell phone ring through, indicating the phone is on and the battery charged seven days after she vanished. Her phone charger has not been found and no calls have been placed from her phone since Monday.

...

Police say Behl spent Labor Day weekend with her family at her northern Virginia home in Vienna. She drove back to campus on Monday, had dinner at a local cafe and returned to her dorm room around 10:20 p.m.

When she arrived, Fuller said, she found her roommate "entertaining" a boyfriend, and told them she was going to "get lost for a little while" to give them some privacy.

She has not been heard from since. ...

With a population of around 200,000, Richmond is traditionally ranked as one of nation's most dangerous cities. Richmond had the country's fourth highest murder rate in 2003 and was ranked the nation's ninth most dangerous city overall in 2004--beating out Miami and Compton, Calif.

The dean is in denial about how dangerous this campus really is. I just did a google search and came up with this on the VCU website:

But VCU has pulled it from their web site.

My heart aches for the parents ...

Uh, why aren't they in contact with the cell phone company to find out where the phone is at?

Even if the phone is not equipped with GPS they should be able to triangulate it's position. I know they used portable equipment in Raleigh many years ago to catch a hacker who worked over a cellular phone before the days of GPS enabled handsets.

That is a great question! And, if the calls 'ring through' I would think that means the phone has been turned off...didn't go to voicemail, right?

Why don't they amber alert the vehicle and tag number?

Richmond is traditionally ranked as one of nation's most dangerous cities

There's a certain ex-mayor of Richmond running for Governor - I'm sure this doesn't help his image either ...

That is, if the roommate's story is true.

Why would she report the girl missing so quickly and not assume the gal just stayed in another student's room for the night.

My heart aches too but my first reaction is that college classes must have just recently started and already this roomate is shacking up with her "boyfriend"????

although its scary in some ways I am so glad my kid is in her own apartment so she doesn't have to put up with so-called college "friends".....

Round up all the illegals. VA is crawling with them, and there is recent precedent-an illegal kinapped and killed a girl in a trailer park in James City? King and Queen County? An El Salvadorean, I believe. In for a penny, in for a pound, so I will further comment that sex crimes involving young American girls seem to be the crie of choice among illegals. Donning my asbestos and awaiting the flames..

They don't want to solve the case - they want others to solve it for them.

Some time ago, a woman at a Hollywood apartment complex was assaulted - video'ed by the surveillence cameras. The camera showed the time and date, showed the man place a cellphone call to her, and showed him greet her at the door (gate) then assault her and take her away.

The "detectives" asked the public for any info to help ID the woman - just to make sure she was okay.

I called them from the EAST COAST and talked with the DA (not District Attorney, either) detective on the case and asked why they didn't run a trace on the cell call. His response? There are thousands of calls made in Hollywood each DAY. I said, "Sir, you have the DATE, DAY, and TIME on the CAMERA and if you knew the technology, you could focus on calls made by possibly a male mobile phone subscriber from the SPECIFIC tower that handles that SPECIFIC area for that SPECIFIC MOMENT terminating to another number listed within the area. That alone would eliminate thousands of calls.

The jerk got irritated and said they'll "look in to it".

Many times, the label "Detective" applies to the officer who can find donuts the quickest.

This is very sad. Richamond has been crime laden for many, many years.

In 1985 my parents took me to VCU for a campus visit. We looked at the dorms and "Rape Awareness Seminar" posters were everywhere. We didn't look much further, my dad told me I wasn't going to VCU and that was that.

Monday night to early Wednesday morning. I was thinking what took her so long?
