Is there a decent alternative to google??

We can always express displeasure by switching services. For example, I think most of us in the 50 and older category, know that AARP is a socialist organization designed to separate the old from the young and to extract money from the younger generation to support our retirement. I am over 50 and was an AARP member briefly until I discovered their left-wing agenda--I have done without their benefits until recently; finding another organization offering similar benefits but abscent the socialist left-wing agenda--it is called USAnext.org Please check it out all you AARP members.

"As an international company, we'd like our logos to reflect the diverse, global nature of our user base ..."

Yeah, because everyone in the world supports American Indepedence:

and Thanksgiving:

and our Election Day:

and Halloween:

and everyone celebrates Easter:

and finally ... everyone joins in and agrees with the philosophy of the Burning Man Festival:

Google was actually doing many more "international" logos in 2002 and earlier and has let them sneak out of the rotation in recent years.

Would somebody please tell my country that there is a big, gaping hole in the fence just to the south of me. Thanks in advance.

Dogpile. Uses multiple search engines

Including Google.

Not a good choice for someone wanting to avoid using Google.

It would only be 'outperforming the media' if whatever decoration Google had on their logo was news. Or was important. Or was meaningful in any way.

It is not.

"I don't think they are going to be able to resist the temptation to try to use their successful position to start pushing the standard Idiot Lefty line."

What even scarier is that, as the primary research tool most people use anymore, they actually have the ability to influence thought, by controlling what hits they return to a given query.

Thank you for all your posts giving me advice about my rant this morning.

I understand that is allowed on FreeRepublic. If it were disallowed I would have heard by now.

What you suggest Mr. Cohen in all your passivity is that I am not a passive person. If I feel something is amiss I will speak up and wait for more advice from people who agree and disagree with me.

You obviously disagree with my method of speaking up - and that is your right sir, I respect it, regardless that you did not respect my right to speak up at all but demeaned it as hardly worthy of a topic.

That is the trouble in our world today - we slink off, disgusted by things we see and read and hear and never take a role in speaking up.

If we are wrong, no doubt people like you will soon change our minds if we are open to suggestion. I am open to suggestions and advice - that is why I frequent forums because learned people give advice on forums.

In this case you have not changed my mind, for you have offered slinking away and keeping quiet and making my concern seem unimportant.

That is not advice at all, merely negative dismissal.

With Dogpile you don't have Google's opening page, which was the original complaint. With multiple search engines you negate Google's political choice of search. You don't get Google's advertisers. The question is does Google get the same credit if you access them directly as apposed to going through Dogpile.

I NEVER implied that you didn't have a right to post your rant. Surely you do. I simply replied to your rant ... as is also my right.

I think the reaon that so many major things go unsolved, is because people spend too much time wringing their hands over silly things. The Cowboy's lost, Google didn't put up the right "memorial" graphic, yada, yada, yada.

Meanwhile, as Google was responding to you, another 1,000 people crossed the border illegally (terrorists? Who knows?), 20 politicians we bribed, and 20 more homes were condemned for emminent domain.

I like your outrage, but for goodness sake, a freaking search engines decision to put a silly graphic on it's page isn't deserving of it, IMHO. If more eople directed that pissed-offedness in other directions ... there may not have been a 9/11 to "memorialize".

Frankly, I think it's a memorial to our own stupidity, and am glad Google didn't show it to the world.

And our borders are still wide open. I suppose Google should be working on a stockpile of graphics for the future unless we get this politically correct cluster***k under control.

I agree Mr. Cohen but far more knowledgeable people write on these forums about the subjects you have suggested. I have been reading FD for years and rarely make commentary because I have little offer, and lots to learn. Generally someone will query the same question I have anyway so I watch and see how the thread goes.

We do have immense problems here and our frustrations with the lack of solutions being offered is hard to bear and I understand my topic was of such little importance in our world right now, but as you will see from the post following yours, another poster brought up the topic.

I also wondered why Google had neglected 9/11 and I then wrote to Google last Sunday. This morning received a reply. I felt it was ok to pass it along in hopes the original writer saw the topic.... I felt my little offering had no weight to it, that is why I didn't include it in the 9/11 thread which should be preserved for historical record.

Please do not judge me by what I write here, this isn't a doctorate class in government or political science or civics - and if it was, I would be writing even less - I am here to learn not to be derided for asking questions or writing opinions - even if they are ineffectual in your lofty world.

We all have our place in society to the degree which we can enrich others in diverse ways. I am comfortable with my personal contributions and rarely have reason to rant - even on unimportant topics.

it had been overlooked.
