Ding, ding, ding... we have a winner folks!
Hell, the columbians could probably buy an old Kilo class, complete with crew, from the Russians. Or rent one from their active duty navy. Probably cost a lot less than building their own.
Similar to being "pregnant-like".
Hey!!! I resemble that remark.
I think that we had a similar posting a year or so ago with pics of a couple of the vessles.
IIRC, they were really "semi-submersables" which are ballasted to ride low in the water so that very little if any of the hull is exposed, with only a small conning tower above the surface.
I think a sub would be a hoot. And if a storm came up, you could just submerge and ride it out under the waves and wind.
YOu'd have to really know your navigation though, so as not to impact undersea obstacles (like the Navy did recently) or surface under a ship. (Gee; the Navy did that too not all that long ago, didn't they?)
Now the USCG will have to get a fleet of attack subs to counter this threat!
LOL. Some while back, about 7-10 years ago we put in at Port Aransas and headed out and sitting centered on top the end of the jetti was a nice Bertram, about a 46 footer. That must have been a shocker. They had to have hit it practically dead on at speed to accomplish that.
We heard later they repaired the boat right there on the jetti and put it back in the water. From what we could see the boat didn't look all that damaged. Tough boat.
Two tons is a good hit. That probably does more to keep prices up and availability from rising more than locking up thousands of people caught selling a gram or two. Last year I think they popped something like thirty seven tons from boats in the span of about three or four months. That's a good thing. More often than not when measuring tonnage of drugs they seem to use metric tons. There are a million grams in one metric ton. That' a lot.
We will never win the war on drugs. The best we can hope to do with a drug like cocaine is keep it relatively expensive so fewer people will try it and fewer who do try it are able to afford enough of it to become addicted. The way to do that is with huge seizures. Those are the only kind that hurt the drug cartels, and they're the only kind that can put a dent in supply, although obviously not enough of a dent to keep the stuff off our streets entirely.
