Solitary Freep of the Al Sheehani Freakshow, PA State Capitol, Harrisburg, PA. This stop was apparently a recent addition to their tour which originally listed only Pittsburgh & Philly. Their rally was to run from 5- 6 pm on Wed. Sept 14. Before the rally some members apparently met with legislators.
I arrived on the scene at 5. Wasn't sure if there would be any other ground support, but I came prepared with extra signs just in case. My sign was about 24x36" and was constructed so that I could fold it up & tuck it in my backpack. Emblazoned with a flag, it said "If You're FREE to protest, THANK A SOLDIER". The word "protest" was sloppily scrawled, with a backwards "r" and "s", and a crooked peace sign in the "o".
Some crappy band had started to play a song called "Why'd He Die?", and the unwashed were beginning to assemble. In total, I'd say they had between 100-150 (which is a fraction of those who came to the "Support The Troops" rally earlier this summer). How many were "imported by the bus" is hard to say. There were also crews present from 3 different TV stations, as well as the local paper.
I found a spot on the steps fairly near the street and directly across from an intersection where I could catch the attention of traffic in multiple directions. I was about 15-20 yards away from their group. Right after I opened up my sign, a leftie carrying a "Baghdad |---> Biloxi" (???) sign came over and stood behind me, pacing back & forth. He was soon followed by a woman carrying an "Eye for an Eye..." Ghandi quote. They seemed surprised & distressed that I was there, and got really peeved when TV crews came over to start filming me. I was interviewed by a news anchorette, and during this process the "Baghdad" leftie started harassing the crew, claiming that since I was only .01% of the people there, I should get .01% of the air time. I laughed at him and said, "Well, by your logic, since my views represent more than 50% of Americans, I should get more than half the air time". He blustered that I didn't represent the majority, they did. In spite of his persistent rudeness, the crew was very polite to him, even as he was babbling something about "Republican-controlled media". Well at least our local new was interested in covering both sides, and I got the impression the news babe thought they were a bunch of losers. DH later watched the newscast & said they did show the protest in a positive spin at all. My sound clip was "You can't reason with an enemy like Al Qaeda by sticking a daisy in the barrel of an AK-47". (I was so nervous I don't even remember saying that!) After taking my picture, the local newspaper photographer asked me if I had any sons or daughters serving & I said, "No, but as far as I'm concerned, they're ALL our sons and daughters." He jotted it down.
During the rally I was approached by a marine mom & a minister, who were both there to observe the freakfest. They thanked me for standing up for the right side. I wondered how many more might be quietly observing, too, as there were a few other people watching the goings-on from the sidelines without applauding or joining in.
I didn't pay too much attention to their speechifying...It was blahh, blahh, "Lied", blah, blah "oil", Halliburton", blah, blah "Cindy & Michael" worshipping, etc. What made me saddest was looking at some of the beautiful little children being towed around with them and indoctrinated in their warped ideology.
I decided to stay until the majority of the rabble disbursed. Soon another leftie came up to me and said "A soldier never gave me any of my freedom. My freedoms came from the ACLU." I replied, "Ah yes, the Anti-American Communist Lawyers Union." This really riled him up, especially when I told him the founder was a communist & he could look it up since he didn't believe me. He started getting a little too strident and I told him to leave me alone. Twice. Finally I turned to a nearby policewoman & said "Ma'am, this man is harasssing me and he won't leave." He starting yelling that I had called him a communist. I said, "I most certainly did not, but now I'll call you a LIAR for saying that- just leave me alone!" At this point the policewoman started walking towards us, so he left. She stood nearby for several minutes watching him leave. She noted that he had left by car and asked me if I was parked nearby. I said yes, I think I'll be fine getting to my car, & I thanked her for her assistance as I left.
He should feel honored that someone may have called him a communist since he is. Why was he upset about that?
Wow, that's a very good day for you. You came up with great answers to their ignorant statements. I'm proud of you and all others who are doing this. My hat's off to you.
LOL!
"My mom didn't give birth to me! I came from a hospital!"
Hey, great job! FReeping is FUN!
nice work. was it fox 43? i was interviewed by them once before and put on the news. they were a very nice crew.
God bless you! This is an example of how only ONE person could make a huge difference.
Although, I must say, I am immensely pleased that there was so little media attention of Cindy Who that I didn't even realize she was in Pennsylvania.
Hats off to you. I've been a solitary Freeper in New York City. It can be a little scary at first but you sure feel good when it's over!
Bless you for YOUR service and for standing up for our wonderful military.
Maybe he was an anarchist and didn't like being called a communist?
Great job, Sisku Hanne
Actually, rather than having been born, I think he may have been found under a rock.
philsfan, it was channel 21, and fox43 took close-up footage but did not talk to me. channel 8 seemed oblivious.
Thank you for this report. Ya done good!
Maybe his freedom did come from the ACLU. He could be the first Living Abortion.
Thank you for speaking out on behalf our military. The best way to support our troops is to speak out whenever and wherever we are. Never let an antiwar comment be made without responding. Keep up the good work.
way to go!!
You are so brave to have done that. It's a shame you had to stand alone. I'm very proud of you and salute you. Thank you. God bless.
