Ward Churchill coming to DePaul University in Chicago; More Propoganda from World Cant Wait

A few weeks back I posted a flyer that was being handed out in Chicago. Well, on my travels this past week I have come across another shocking poster hanging in my school's cafeteria. It publicizes a lecture of the Anti-American professor Ward Churchill on Oct 20 at Depaul University, and the worst part, is this is a school-sponsored lecture. Have a look at the scanned poster I have uploaded for everyone to see.

Hopefully some Freepers can help me by emailing the address listed on the flyer and telling them you disapprove of this scum coming to my school. Most campuses that initially wanted to have him come speak had to cancel his events because of the backlash - let's do the same for this!

Lastly, an organization known as World Cant Wait has been handing out flyers like crazy all over Chicago and I posted one a few weeks back but the image was so overloaded the image host shut the link down. Hopefully everyone who wants to check this new fyer out, can. Take a look at all the absurdities on it, both sides, mind you.
Some great quotes off the flyer:

That he still has a job after calling the victims of 9-11 "Little Eichmanns" is totally amazing, if disgustingly predictable. Misanthropic Progressives have to stick together, I guess.

M. Cherif Bassiouni is a Distinguished Research Professor of Law at DePaul University College of Law and President of its International Human Rights Law Institute. He is also President of the International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences in Siracusa, Italy, as well as the President of the International Association of Penal Law, based in Paris, France.

He has served the United Nations in a number of capacities, including: Member and then Chairman of the Security Council's Commission to Investigate War Crimes in the Former Yugoslavia (1992-94); Commission on Human Rights' Independent Expert on The Rights to Restitution, Compensation and Rehabilitation for Victims of Grave Violations of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (1998-2000); Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the 1998 Diplomatic Conference on the Establishment of an International Criminal Court; and the Vice-Chairman of the General Assembly's Ad Hoc Committee on the Establishment of an International Criminal Court (1995). In 2004, he was appointed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights as the Independent Expert on Human Rights in Afghanistan.

In 1999, Professor Bassiouni was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in the field of international criminal justice and for his contribution to the creation of the International Criminal Court. He has received medals from Austria, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, and the United States. He has also received numerous academic and civic awards, including the Special Award of the Council of Europe; the Defender of Democracy Award, Parliamentarians for Global Action; and The Adlai Stevenson Award of the United Nations Association.

Professor Bassiouni is the author of 24 and editor of 44 books, and the author of 217 articles on a wide range of legal issues, including international criminal law, comparative criminal law, and international human rights law.

The purpose of this book is to convey to a non-Muslim audience an understanding of Islam, its history, culture, and contribution to civilization.

The mix of an easy-to-read text and visual representations including maps, charts, pictures, and drawings with informative captions explains the important message of Islam in a way that the reader will hopefully find thoughtful and appealing. Relevant verses of the Qur'an and sayings of the Prophet (Hadith) have been included where appropriate, as support for the narrative, and their interspersing sets out their relevant importance. The Arabic text of the Qur'an was also included because no translation can do it justice.

Most of the Qur'an quotes were translated by me in reliance upon several published translations, especially The Holy Qur'an translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali (Khalil Al-Rawaf, 1946). My translation was done with a view to make the non-Arabic reader better understand the intended meaning.

This is both an informative and an artistic book which covers many aspects of Islam: religious, historical, geographic, social, legal, political, economic, cultural, scientific, and artistic. These aspects are dealt with in a way which at times may seem cursory but this does not forsake accuracy or depth.

The primary goal of this book is to inform those who know little or nothing about Islam and to enhance their understanding. As an educator that is all I can ask for and as a Muslim, that is all I can aspire to. But as a member of the family of humankind I would feel gratified if this book can lead to a better understanding among peoples of the world and thus contribute to peace and harmony in our universe. Whether all or some of these expectations will be fulfilled is some thing the reader will have to judge.

DePaul’s Jihad against academic freedom
April 18th, 2005


DePaul University in Chicago is one of the fastest growing universities in the country. It has become the largest Catholic-affiliated university in America. Muslim and Arab students are one of the segments of DePaul's student population that has seen the greatest increase in numbers in recent years. Although no figures are available, these students are an important source of revenue for the University, and many may well pay full tuition, making their attendance particularly lucrative.

Perhaps in recognition of this market segment, the University hired Norman Finkelstein to teach in its Political Science Department. This acquisition of “talent” took place after Finkelstein had lost his job at two different colleges in New York, following controversy over his support of holocaust denier David Irving and his bitterly abusive attacks on the state of Israel.

DePaul, like many other colleges and universities, may have also received significant funding for new academic chairs and programs from various Arab countries. When a college can find a Jew who loathes Israel like Finkelstein, supports holocaust deniers, and is the go-to-guy on lots of viciously anti-Semitic websites, Arab money is almost sure to follow...read more...
