Hurricane Victims less angry than Bush-haters
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | Sep 19, 2005 | Ruth Ann Dailey

Instead of "he said, she said," today's column concerns "They said, you said, I said."

"They" are the hardy souls rounded up by ABC News to listen to President Bush's speech to the nation Thursday night. I happened to tape the event and was so astonished by it that I made a transcript. What they said illuminates what you said in response to what I said -- or what you think I said -- last Monday.

Reporter Dean Reynolds found a dozen people -- all African-Americans -- who'd been evacuated from the flooded streets of New Orleans, sat with them outside the Houston Astrodome and interviewed them as soon as the president's speech ended.

Reynolds' first question was to a woman named Connie London: "You heard the president say you are not alone . . . Do you believe him?"

"Yes," she said, "because here in Texas they've been truly good to us."

When have liberals ever really helped the poor and minorities?

Liberals use the poor and minorities as their pawns.

Liberals use people like Cindy Sheehan.
Liberals use people like Tawanna Brawley.
Liberals use people like Anita Hill.

Liberals have no use for the poor or minorities except to help liberals maintain power.

Minorities are the first to suffer (New Orleans) at the hands of liberals.

I hope Dean Reynolds will be able to find a new job. You know that when he was unable to find people that would bash Bush, he really messed up.

In all of the reporting, I have only seen one instance where they showed the people of rural MS, who were basically saying that the storm is over, let's clean this up and get on with our lives. Taking matters into their own hands and getting it done.

What I have seen:

The police and military units going door to door illegally confiscating weapons from the law abiding citizens trying to protect themselves and their families and their property while ignoring the thieves and looters roaming the streets.

Oh, come on. He rounded up a big group of "black folk". They were supposed to stay on the Democrat plantation and repeat what they were told by the master's trustees, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Everyone in the MSM knows that. Liberals really do carry on the soft bigotry of lowered expectations.

What used to be a nearly pure voting bloc for Democrats is starting to understand that voting for anyone just because he shares the same skin tone or is a Democrat can be hazardous to your health. Now that the illusion of the Democrat party being good for African-Americans has been seriously damaged, I am optimistic about the future of our country. It's just so sad that so many people had to suffer in the process.

I hope that you are right. I have a funny feeling that these people will have a very short memory.

Not only a diaspora, but a great awakening among the former residents of New Orleans, and particularly the escapees from the 9th Ward, to the truly cruel and despotic regime that has kept them bottled up in a death-trap slum for decades.

New Orleans was a city out of control for years before Hurricane Katrina hit, with a corrupt city management and a corrupt police force. Like so many human agencies, not totally corrupt, because there were and are still elements of decency and good in that ravished town, but they were always hard pressed to keep up that degree of optimism. Now almost all their good works, such as they were, have been swept away, and anarchy hangs heavy in the deserted streets.

New Orleans shall have to be re-invented from the ground up. No question we need the port, and much of the port facilities will be back in operation rather quickly. We also need a place for the people who carry on the day-to-day operation of the port. What nobody needs is construction of new slums, filled with people who have nothing to do with the operation of the port, or the support of those who work there.

MY point about the coverage is that the reporters are too lazy to go into Mississippi, plus they are using the mess in New Orleans to continue their constant Bush-bashing.

Everyone in the states hit by Katrina needs help. I don't fault the people of New Orleans, who have suffered a great deal. But showing some of the people of Mississippi and the extent of the damage in that state would help people understand what a huge disaster this is.

When have liberals ever really helped the poor and minorities?

Liberals help the poor in exchange for their votes -- and they do it using our tax dollars. In other words, when they're so called "helping" the poor, they're really helping themselves. Then when liberal "help" results in dependency, breakdown in community and criminality, liberals still think they're wonderful because their intentions were good. Sick.
