many tornadoes in MS the since yesterday afternoon..major damge, many injuries and at least on death so far..
several factors seem to be coming together even more so then usual outbreak for a tropical system today..
we have the usual good low level shear in the right front quad with tropical systems..but sometimes with tropical systems you have the following missing which we have today..
1. trough is hanging back over LA and we still have SE winds east of even south of the center in the "right back quad" over LA and MS...
2. we seem to have almost a mid level wind maxima of 50 knots at 500 MB rotating around it, this is also producing deep shear of 40-45 knots at times
3. some mid level dry air will allow for some heating today
most of the time in tropical systems you have tornadoes in the NE quad and they are rather weak ...you have the shear in the NE quad but becuase of clouds and rain the instability are low...you have the instability in the SE quad but the winds become unidirectional and shear decreases...today they are or may overlap..plus you have stornger winds in the mid-levels too....
time will only tell..but today could be a very rough day over Western TN, nuch of MS, and western AL..as the day goes on wind shear will weaken but instability will increase so the most dangerous time could be when they overlap say 10am to 3 pm...
Yikes, enough already. It appears from the radar that we in Missouri are getting some of what is left of Rita. Just a light rain, mercifully.
Just why didn't you post this in the "Live Thread Part VIII"?
ping
There is already a live thread where this is being discussed: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1490587/posts
Likewise, there is already a thread to check up on those in the affected areas: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1490520/posts
becuase i didn't want that thread to get clogged up with all the warnings and/or tornado reports that will likley come in today...that thread was more for "hurricane" rita and what is happening in LA/TX....Rita is getting "seperated" by the stronger winds aloft i talked about..and a piece of it will merge with a trough in the midwest and move northest and a peice may hang around the south for a while

Around 20+ tornadoes yesterday. Some of those were pretty strong tornadoes for a tropical system.
Could be another active day today. SPC has a slight risk for a large portion of the Tenn Valley.
Another poor FReeper pulled over by the self appointed Post Police.
At least this thread has more usefulness than all those "FREEP THIS POLL!!" threads.
As I recall, janetjane998 was one of the first on FR to realize the danger of hurricane Katrina. Lot of FReepers scoffed and ridiculed her/him then too.
thing startingto pick up now..i suspect SPC will upgrade to moderate risk for MS/AL and KY later if we get the sun breaks which we seem to be doing
Personally, I appreciate a new thread. Thanks, Janet.

Hello from NE Mississippi. Just got out of the shelter. We've been under a couple of tornado warnings the last two hours. Rain is coming down in torrents and had a flash flood in the lower areas. I went out this morning and watched a fellow in front of me hydroplane and hit a bridge. Its been a rather eventful day so far. This is worse than when the eye of Katrina went right over us.
