I've heard a lot of comparisons between Ben Stiller and Steve Carell lately, and it's not just because the two have shared screen time in blockbusters such as "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" and are connected in the Frat Pack through his many associations with Will Ferrell. Bottom line: The guy is everywhere these days.
Fresh of the box office boom of "The 40 Year-Old Virgin," MSNBC says that Carell will host the premiere of "Saturday Night Live" next weekend. The show also has another recent headliner attached -- Kanye West will serve as the musical guest.
The 31st season of "Saturday Night Live" kicks off Saturday, October 1 at 11:30 p.m. (EST) on NBC. -- Rachel Cericola
Yeah, SNL is as lazy and predictable as ever. Nobody ever heard of this Kanye West before a few weeks ago, and his ad lib outburst at that awards show (that nobody watched) had the desired effect - - to get West's name in the news. And there, of course, is SNL ready, willing and able to throw him up there like a freak show in the hopes that the masses will tune in to see what the guy looks like.
What was even better was about 6 months later they had Joe Cocker on (Who Belushi was imitating in the song/show) and he did the same thing (with Belushi watching from the side of the stage). It was classic!
It doesn't rise to the level of what Sinead O'Connor had done. What Kanye West, and the MSM were and are hoping to achieve are the reversal of the 41 years of progress in racial equality by driving a wedge into the racial divide.
They should have put a stake through it's heart with the 25th anniversary show. It's been the walking dead for years.
LOL! Yep! They happend to show both of those particular episodes last winter, the John Belushi imitation showed one week, and the Joe Cocker appearance the following week. Heck, in the episode where John Belushi imitated Joe Cocker, there was a skit with Rich Hall where his shoes had holes on the bottom and he cut a couple pieces of this rubber rug that triggered electric doors. Every door he walked by, whether it was a newspaper vending machine opened up as he walked by them. They also lampooned the stupidity that regularly shows on 60 Minutes.
I've heard about that one but never seen it. I'll bet Belushi had chugged a few to get into the mood.
He looked pretty stoned too. LOL! Aside from him flopping around on the stage which was absolutely funny, the background singers were singing the chorus along with Belushi as if nothing outrageous was happening up stage. That was the funniest part.
I bought the movie Animal House on DVD (the "Double Secret Probation" Anniversary Edition), and there is a behind-the-scenes "making of..." extra featurette, and the most funny part is the director introducing John Belushi to the viewer and saying that Belushi is the most talented person he's ever worked with and said Belushi could emote with just his eyebrows and goes on to demonstrate. He tells Belushi to "show me angry" and Belushi furls his eyebrows, "show me scared" and Belushi raises his eyebrows. FUNNY STUFF!
Since they have no ratings I guess the dumb majority believe it s**ks too.
I remember that Elvis Costello appearance, and I thought it was great! He started playing a song and after about 30 seconds he waved his hand and told his band "Stop, stop!" and then he immediately went into another song. Apparently he suddenly decided that he didn't like the first song and changed up. It was not a big deal at all - - pretty amusing, actually. I don't believe there were any ramificatications over it from NBC.
I don't remember the banning of Elvis Costello, but I remember when Andrew Dice Clay was banned from SNL, and still is.
Elvis Costello was baned from SNL for 12 years over that. This and others,

It was live television so that's why most bans are from SNL. Many are never seen on any network again.
Everything from "Little Richard Simmons" to "Velvet Jones" to "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood." Plus his young angry black militant on "Weekend Update."
Sheer brilliance.
Oh, I think there WERE ramifications. It screwed up their whole schedule --- they sell seconds of advertizing, remember --- and it was years before Costello was allowed back.
NOVEMBER 11--Comedian Bill Maher was slapped yesterday with a $9 million palimony suit by an ex-girlfriend who alleges that the HBO star subjected her to physical and verbal abuse, including "insulting, humiliating and degrading racial comments." In the below Los Angeles Superior Court complaint, Nancy Johnson, a centerfold model and former flight attendant (AND ADULT FILM STAR) also known as Coco Johnsen, alleges that Maher, 48, reneged on promises to pay her expenses and purchase a Beverly Hills home....(excerpt)
That wacky Bill, such a paragon of virtue...
