Well, do not be mystified at all, 'cause in both cases it is about the First Amendment's freedom of speech clause.
If any one muzzles Maher for his antics, it is just as right to muzzle Ann, in attacking the Left and grilled them to shreds!

I, really do not believe that Mrs. Coulter is a genuine friend of Maher, although both of them have a common cause "The First Amendment".
