NEW YORK - Pictures of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison must be released despite government claims that they could damage America's image, a judge ruled Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein ordered the release of certain pictures, saying terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan have proven they "do not need pretexts for their barbarism."
The American Civil Liberties Union sought the release of 87 photographs and four videotapes as part of an October 2003 lawsuit demanding information on the treatment of detainees in U.S. custody and the transfer of prisoners to countries known to use torture. The ACLU contends that prisoner abuse is systemic.
"Our nation does not surrender to blackmail, and fear of blackmail is not a legally sufficient argument to prevent us from performing a statutory command," the judge wrote in his 50-page decision. "Indeed, the freedoms that we champion are as important to our success in Iraq and Afghanistan as the guns and missiles with which our troops are armed.

The ACLU eats little balls of crap and I sure hate to see them win anything , but the Judge has a point, The Islamics dont need any excuses to proceed with their barbarism.
That having been said I am sure the media will explain any problems that arise from these photos being released is the fault of the ACLU. Bwaahahahahahahaha. In a pigs eye.

He may have a point, but does he have a legal leg to stand on?

"Our nation does not surrender to blackmail, and fear of blackmail is not a legally sufficient argument to prevent us from performing a statutory command," What blackmail?
"do not need pretexts for their barbarism."
This judge is talking mumbo-jumbo.

Yes, we should use the full power of government to hide the truth if it might make us look bad in the eyes of our enemies. In fact, the embarrasing nature of information is full justification for its burial by the government.
I know that sounds ridiculous, but it seems to be the consensus opinion here.
Of course, my mom always said that I shouldn't be doing anything I'd be embarassed to see in a picture in the paper. I reckon she had a point.

Unbelievable . . . but not really. The release of these photos serves zero purpose in correcting any mistakes made at Abu Graib. The sole purpose of the ACLUs request is to obtain new pictures and perpetuate the flames of hatred against America. This organization is dangerous and time will tell what's in store for them when something like this cost more innocent lives. I see a flashing light . . .

Proganda is a weapon if war, and our nation has to control information just as we would control any other weapon used against us.

Along side each photo of an Abu Grabass prisoner with under ware on his head should be a photo of a US hostage having his head sawed off.
If were going to allow incitement, then lets make sure it goes both ways!!!!!!
