Rodney King held after daughter phones police

Dan Glaister in Los Angeles

Saturday October 1, 2005

The Guardian

Rodney King, whose videotaped beating by Los Angeles police officers led to the 1992 Los Angeles riots, has been arrested after an altercation at his home.

Mr King is accused of threatening to kill his former girlfriend and their daughter, Candace King, 23. Ms King called police, saying her father was armed. The gun turned out to be a toy, police said later.

Mr King, who suffers from the effects of a 2003 car accident, is being held in lieu of $250,000 (£142,000) bail. After his beating and the subsequent riots, in which 55 people died, Mr King received a settlement of $3.8m.

"Mr King received a settlement of $3.8m."

...and, now he's completely broke and in-out of jail regularly.

Hmmm....when I did wrong as a youth, I got a whippin'. When I forgot the lesson, and engaged in bad conduct, I received another whippin'.

Perhaps Rotney did not receive a proper whippin'.

He certainly recieved a proper "settlement."

Rodney King, a typical Outstanding Citizen of the Year selected by the NAACP.

I love your tagline, but I must say that your observation about the coffee is dead on spot, but, they are beignets, and not donuts.

;)

Ya know, if Rodney King's mother had gotten an abortion there'd be less crime. </sarcasm>

Individuals you do not want to 'hitch your wagon to' to advance your cause:

1. Rodney King
2. Cindy Sheehan
3. T Brawley (spell?)
many many others I cannot recall right now...

He was a POS then and would have ended up broke and probably dead long ago save for the grievous actions of the police. They destroyed themselves and gave Mr. King and many, many others some reason to riot. IMO His settlement simply protracted his miserable life.

BTW, why is this reported from the UK?

I wonder why the Liberal "media" stopped referring to Rodney as "The Black Motorist." I always thought that would make a cool comic book character or movie action hero.

sarcasm/off

Agree. The 3.8M simply thwarted the inevitable. Certainly wouldn't classify this case as 'Inteeligent Design'!
