Support from us in the confirmation hearings doesn't matter a whit.

"The only thing they have on Ms. Miers is the fact she contributed to a pro life candidate 17 years ago. "

Not quite.

A. "Someone" named Harriet Miers contributed to Algore 17 years ago. So far it hasn't been proved it was this HM.

B. At the time Algore was pro life.

"Her undergraduate degree was in mathematics... math folks can be painstakingly strict in their construction of things."

This is just about the only thing I can glean from her background, either positive or negative. I consider this to be a very good thing, personally.

It is too bad, to me, that the President didn't nominate someone like Brown - my heart-throb choice... but if Miers IS a strict Constructionist/ Constitutionalist, and tends to be a logician and mathematical in her approach to cases, conservatives are going to be very happy.

Barely a fact in almost 800 posts and you are all ready to throw in the towel.

Perhaps people like me are pissed BECAUSE there's barely a fact. Why leave so many great nominees on the vine and pick a lotto commissioner Mystery Date?

As far as I'm concerned, this is the BOHICA nominee.

Your not going to vote? You must not trust President Bush.

I think this is a great choice.

I'm not sure she's pro-life. If her friend is Kay Bailey-Hutchison, she may have an indifference towards disabled Americans. Hutchison didn't give a wit about Terri Schiavo. Maybe Harriett helped craft laws in Texas that allows institutions to decide who lives or dies.

Watch www.notdeadyet.org to see what their response is to the Miers' selection. NDY represents 30 disability advocacy groups.

you call yourself a conservative or just a republican party booster?? ?
I call myself a conservative because I AM a conservative.......and have been for a whole lot of years.

And I call you a newbie, who could just might be a DU troll....

Well put, ignore the questions on policy supported by
BUSH and attack me as a troll..please just respond to the questions on policy and we will find out how conservative you are? immigration, gov spending, gov socialism (drug program), what do you say on these??

This nomination is enough to make even a usual Bush-bot (like me) really question the decision-making process going on in the White House.

Agree. Miers just doesn't sound like the most qualified nominee regardless of political leanings. This cronyism ala Michael Brown doesn't reflect well on the process. I guess Laura must have had her way--a woman from SMU.

If one Republican jumps ship, she will not be confirmed. This is now about politics not principle.

If only that were true.... I'd email my senator (Coburn) and ask him to be the one.

The reason we're unhappy (to put it mildly) is because he RENEGGED ON HIS WORD and did not pick a justice "in the mold of Scalia and Thomas".

How about posting some FACTS to prove that assertion.

We can all wait.

He can then withdraw her, and then send Janice Rogers Brown and be percieved as taking the high ground.

Lol... yeah right.

The Supreme Court is revisiting Assisted Suicide in Oregon TODAY. I wonder if Harriet Miers is for assisted suicide. I think she'll go along with Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg, Souter and the rest.
