No, a known quantity would have been better.

55 Senate Republicans are ruled by the Minority of 44.

Sad.

I'd feel bad for Thomas.

Too bad Rodney Dangerfield isn't alive. He'd have been a great pick as well.

There are two reasons I will always think of Rodney fondly:

1. For being Rodney, and

2. Introducing me to Sam Kinison (on Rodney's first HBO special).

Sam would have been a great pick as well. Can you imagine how he'd deal with the attorneys practicing before the Court?

That Miers served on Dallas City Council is enough reason to discard her.

Well .. time will tell just how happy Reid is about this pick

I will be listening to his speeches .. especially on the Senate Floor

Something tells me he'll not have nice things to say about her

This choice may also prevent Jeb Bush from ever being president. I can't see many true conservatives voting for him on a national ticket

Reid will seem pleased this morning, on this issu, then he'll stab W in the back by the afternoon.

We will never learn. Democrats, by and large, are not moral people, guided by their weaknesses. They will do and say anything to win. Clinton stabbed W in the back last week. Reid will do it this week.

I hear she once gave money to the Gore/Lieberman campaign for president.

Please do some research before spouting that kind of nonsense.

In fact, one of her last political contributions on record was to help defray the Bush/Cheney legal expenses in the Florida recount effort in 2000.

She appears to be christian because:

1. Bush said so when he introduced her.
2. she wore a cross.
3. Her memberships include christian faith based organiztions whose missions are primarily evangelism

That's wrong. She gave to Gore in '88 when he was pro-life.

"Hey Bush - why don't you raise taxes now - you'll be a certified Democrat then."

Maybe he's saving that for right before the '06 election.

Sure hope you're right! This is the first comment I've liked since holding my breath when she was announced.

Mark is right about the two reasons: 1. she's a she and 2. she's a long time Bushfriend. Your #3 belongs in #2 in my opinion.A longtime Bush friend would obviously be admired by him.

She is NOT a Scalia or a Thomas.

I hope I am wrong...

Actually 327 million Americans are being chosen for by the 'Gang of 14' in the Senate of John McLame and Linday Graham.
