AUSTIN — A Texas grand jury on Monday indicted U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay on a new charge of money laundering.
A different grand jury whose term ended last week indicted him on a conspiracy charge, forcing DeLay to temporarily step down as House majority leader.
Both indictments accuse DeLay and two political associates of conspiring to get around a state ban on corporate campaign contributions by funneling the money through the DeLay-founded Texans for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee to the Republican National Committee in Washington. The RNC then sent back like amounts to distribute to Texas candidates in 2002, the indictment alleges.

Fox says this is a different grand jury with different charges based on the same facts. Hedging bets?
It looks like Ronnie Earle wanted to dominate the news cycle for two weeks, not just one. No other explanation for this action (not doing all indictments at the same time).

I hope there is not a "photocopied" document being used as evidence in this case. I have a strange feeling there is.

I just don't think that Delay would have gone on Fox and other shows like he has, if he knew of this other Grand Jury....
I would think he would have waited until ALL charges were public.

Two sets of charges on one set of facts? Earle better plan on trying to do it all in one trial, or he'll run into problems with double jeopardy.
This is standard stuff for Earle. He staggered indictments against the other defendants, just the same as this.
When I worked in the public sector we did this all the time. It is called "fund swapping". You take money from one area where it is restricted and swap it with an equal amount of unrestricted general funds.
Got a phone call on the answering machine today urging to me condemn my Congressman for "accepting tainted money" from DeLay.
Just the thing to cap off a !@#$%^&*! sh*tty day.
I would be interested in finding out how long the 1st Grand Jury reviewed the case, prior to coming down with an indictment. I would like to compare that to the 1 week it took for the 2nd Grand Jury to indict. (And taking into account the time it takes to give the newly seated Grand Jury their instructions, their oaths, etc. as Grand Jurors. A short 1 week seems pretty quick for something as convoluted as money laundering.
So this is what, the 8th Grand Jury to visit this?

And it is perfectly legal as DeLay pointed out when he was calling these liberal slime what they really are, and are all about. I certainly hope he prevails and then goes after these maggots for defamation and malicous harassment. God, is there one fighter amongst the Congressional Repubs??
Can first indictment be used as evidence (for lack of better word) in 2nd grand jury?
