Third officer this year to face charges; Johnson accused of molesting girl, 15

A Columbus police officer was charged Saturday night with sexually abusing a teenage girl.

Bruce Anthony Johnson, 41, of 1050 Farr Road, was charged with aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, statutory rape, enticing a child for indecent purposes and two counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor. He is scheduled to appear in court this morning.

Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren said the investigation began Friday afternoon, and the allegations involved a 15-year-old girl.

"We started the investigation Friday afternoon, and the investigation continued until Saturday evening when we arrested him at the police department and took him to the county jail," Boren said Sunday night.

Johnson, who was hired in 2004, is on administrative leave, Boren said. Johnson is being held in the Muscogee County Jail.

Johnson is the third Columbus officer arrested this year on criminal charges. Gregory Diltz, 45, was charged in July with pointing a gun at another person. The case was dismissed, and Diltz was placed on administrative assignment, meaning he is working a desk job until the department's Office of Professional Standards completes an internal investigation.

Boren said an administrative hearing on Diltz's case is scheduled for this week.

Also in July, officer Philip Matteo was charged with forgery and illegally obtaining an addictive painkiller with falsified prescriptions. Matteo, 54, is on administrative leave without pay, Boren said.

Columbus Police Detective Joyce Dent-Fitzpatrick testified that Johnson had a sexual relationship with the girl for nearly three years, starting when the girl was 14. She's now 16.

Is this bad writing or did this officer know about the relationship and not do anything.

Wow, a normal man would require some bond on that at least.
