Amazon.com Removes Mapes Excerpt

After initially putting the first chapter of fired CBS producer Mary Mapes's book, Truth and Duty, on its web site, Amazon.com has apparently pulled the plug on the enterprise. Visitors to the online book retailer can no longer read the excerpt as it no longer shows up in listings for the print or audio versions of the book.

Was the excerpt yanked because of the several objectively incorrect assertions it contained, and the subsequent blog firestorm their exposition caused? Only Amazon or Mapes's publisher, St. Martin’s Press knows for sure.

The excerpt and comments are hilarious. BTW, what in the hell is "peripheral spacing"????? There's a well-known typesetting concept called "proportional spacing".

I think you can claim at least an assist on this one.

The MAIN reason why the Mary Mapes book was removed from Amazon was because I DUFUed it on the DUFUed it in the DUmmie FUnnies. That book was taken down from Amazon (first just the excerpt and then the book itself) only a SHORT TIME after it was featured in the DUmmie FUnnies.

The ONLY place where you can read the ENTIRE Mary Mapes book excerpt is in the DUmmie FUnnies where it has been preserved for posterity...and comedy.

YUP! The MAIN reason the book was removed. Remember, within minutes after my DUFU blog edition about this went up, it was the #1 news story in Google about Mary Mapes. Right now it is in the #2 slot.

You might remember that I did question in the DUmmie FUnnies why her publisher did no fact checking. The fact that Mary Mapes herself can't be bothered with fact checking is well known but that even her publisher doesn't bother to check the facts is really inexcusable.
