tucker carlson says Iran and Saudi Arabia have very little abortion, homicide, teen pregnancy, STDs

TUCKER CARLSON: This, it seems to me to defy common sense. Just let me just give you one obvious, the most obvious example. The societies that I am aware of with the highest level of religiosity just pick two, Iran and Saudi Arabia, have in fact the lowest level of dysfunctions, like the ones Mr. Paul mentions abortion, homicide, teen pregnancy, STDs, they have virtually none.

That's possibily true. But I believe the US and other 'Christian' countries also had the same experience in the past. In a society where social norm is quite strong, more likely social cost to do such things are so high that either people feel ashame to do such things, or they don't tell anybody that they do. On the other side, however, your behavior and action will be dictated by the social norms. And more likely, there's a dominant norm that doesn't give other norms room. In other words, in countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, you may be let alive, but without the same rights (under the law) as others who conform Islam.

Carlson thinks Iran & Saudi are democracies?
Don't know what "the lowest levels of dysfunctions" actually means. Iran has plenty of drug addicts.

I don't doubt it, it could very well be true. Probably a great place to live, except for the hand chopping, beheading and burying up the the neck and stoning for adultery.

I would also guess that North Korea has the lowest incidence of intellectual property theft and tourist violence...

Sorry-it is early and this just seemed to hit me in an odd way.

LOL. And Communist China eliminated the opium problem by killing the addicts.

"let me start by making a huge disclaimer. The study is about correlation. It's not about causation. It doesn't tell us anything really about whether religion or lack of religion causes all of these problems.

The most telling line from the whole interview.

These are the statistics they report, not necessarily what is. The Saudis butcher their women and all who disagree with them. I suspect that these are not in their statistics.

Likely to be untrue. Saudi and Iran are not known for producing honest statistics except about oil production.

The jaw drops. Is Carlson for real? While it may be true that Iran and SA have lower rates of these things, they also lack freedom, choice, etc. Women, on their best day in either country, are slaves and are put to death for having sex outside of marriage, abortions, pre-marital sex, etc.

So, sure, if American women want to wear burkhas and have in every aspect or their lives controlled by men, we can achieve the same thing.

But, I wouldn't want to live there. I like looking at women - tents with legs do nothing for me.

I think it's true. When you keep your women virtually behind bars, it's pretty hard for them to get pregnant outside of marriage, contract STDs, etc. And to be honest if they price of extramarital or premarital sex is death, a lot of girls find the strength to Just Say No.

I'm sure there are prostitutes, exploitation of the female slaves, and sex tourism. But your average Saudi housewife does not have affairs and your average Saudi teenager does not screw around. When women can't drive, how are they even going to have the privacy and mobility to engage in extracurricular activities like that?

Actually, I believe that Iran has major problems with all of these things, as well as drug (heroin) addiction. I have read that prostitution is a huge problem in Iran, and it is generally forced prostitution, where impoverished families in rural areas sell their daughters to procurers. So I would suspect that their rate of venereal disease, etc. is about the same, and among the prostitutes, no doubt abortion is fairly common as well.

I wouldn't believe a thing the Saudis tell us.

Islam has a very peculiar attitude towards sex, which seems to consist basically in saying that anything goes for men, and women can do nothing but endure whatever men decide to do to them. Also, recall that Islam is fine with pederasty and bestiality (Ayatollah Khomenei's first published writing was an ask-the-mullah piece saying it was okay for Muslims to use their chickens for sex).

And what has happened to Joe Scarborough. I watched a few minutes last night and he is terrible. He has turned into a total Bush basher. My sense is that he may have decided to target MSNBC's leftie viewers to save his show.
