Clinton Dispatches Document Thief to Rebut Freeh

Ex-president Bill Clinton has dispatched convicted national security document thief Sandy Berger to rebut bombshell charges from former FBI Director Louis Freeh set to air on CBS's "60 Minutes" tonight.

The Washington Post reports that producers came under "strong pressure from former president Bill Clinton's advisers" to allow Berger to respond to Freeh's claim that Clinton shook down Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah for a contribution to his presidential library after promising to go soft on the Khobar Towers bombing probe.

In a statement to be read on-air after Freeh details his allegations, Berger claims he was at the meeting and then insists: "The president strongly raised the need for Saudi officials to cooperate with us on the investigation into the attack on Khobar Towers at the time when the FBI was attempting to gain access to the suspects. The president did not raise in any fashion the issue of his library."

In April, Berger pled guilty to stealing and destroying top secret national security documents from the National Archives while helping Mr. Clinton prepare for his testimony before the 9/11 Commission.

He also admitted that he lied last year when he first called the crime "an honest mistake."

He was sentenced on Sept. 8 to two years probation and fined $50,000.

Just two days later, however - Berger was in legal hot water again, after Virginia highway cops clocked him doing 88-miles-per-hour in a 55-mile zone.

He was charged with reckless driving: a Class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia that carries a penalty of up to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Appearing in court this past Wednesday, Berger was warned by U.S. District Magistrate Deborah Robinson that his sentence in the theft case could also be expanded because he had violated the terms of his probation.

Perhaps realizing that Berger's checkered past impaired his credibility as a character witness for Mr. Clinton, Clinton spokesman Jay Carson told CBS that he has accounts from five other former officials who received briefings on the Clinton-Abdullah meeting and who back Mr. Clinton's denial.

Nothing like additional credibility, why not call Scott Peterson, and Kofi Annan too.

Freeh bags Clinton and Berger in this archived article. Great stuff about Clintons lack of enthusiasm on terror also. http://www.newyorker.com/archive/content/articles/010924fr_archive06

Was NR Soft on Terror?
Dishonesty from The American Prospect.

The Clinton White House knew more about the threat from al Qaeda than most anyone else in the country. This is one of the premises of former Clinton NSC staffers Daniel Benjamin and Steven Simon's book, The Age of Sacred Terror, which is supposed to be a defense of Clinton policy but often reads like a condemnation. Over and over gain, they write that the Clinton administration knew about the threat. They just couldn't manage to do anything about it.

"We urgently understood the U. B. L. threat," a former Clinton official told me, confirming the Benjamin and Simon account. "There have been former Clinton people on background, saying 'Jeez, we didn't know the threat was that bad.' And my answer is, 'Bull — — , we didn't.' The people who were involved in that knew that this was a really big deal. Should we have taken more chances? That's a legitimate question. But it's not legitimate for anyone who worked in the Clinton administration and tackled some of these issues to pass this off and say, 'We didn't know it was that bad.' We did."

Consider this if just one statement is true all denials of Clinton's were just busted. One of Clinton's main lines of defense for all scandals was the White House Log Book always showing very few visits by anyone who was suspect. Freeh states that he was offered a pass which would not require him to sign in.How many other passes like this were issued. Let's see. One to Monika, One to each Chinese donor,One was probably offered to Kathleen Willey,Gennifer Flowers And Paula Jones. All Playboy playmates,Every Hooter's girl in the country. And God knows who else.I almost forgot. One must have been given to whoever came after Vince Foster's body. Now who are you going to believe former FBI Director Louis Freeh or Recently Convicted Sandy "Pants" Burglar. The Clinton attack dogs will be out in full force on this one.People are asking why Freeh didn't resign and get out of there. Obviously it was out of fear of Clinton's dirty tricks. Any new Clinton apointee would have been loyal to Clinton and would have surely gone after Freeh with a vengance.

Former FBI Director Louis Freeh charges in his book that President Clinton solicited money from the High Mucky-Mucks of Saudi Arabia in return for certain handling by the U.S. of a terrorist bombing.

One must believe the former FBI director knew what was going on with the Clinton White House. No one could publish such serious charges unless he was prepared to back them up.

If it is true that the former impeached President Clinton ask foreign leaders for a personal handout, for any reason, in return for foreign policy considerations, then this is the biggest political scandal of a corrupt presidency overflowing with scandal.

It means that the president of the United States put himself in a position to have U.S. foreign policy dictated to him by foreign interests.

There is nothing new about this type of behavior by Clinton. Clinton was caught taking money from various sources in Southeast Asia, including Communist Red China, during his presidential campaign. After he was caught he gave some of the money back.

Nothing came of it, he never went to prison, and it was ignored by the major media. The wimpy Republicans kept their mouths shut.

It's great that Freeh is exposing Clintoon's breach of our security. But it's a little late.

Its funny - a felon lecturing a lawman about ethics. You can make this one up.

I expect 60 Minutes to spend the whole segment trying to trash Freeh. I hope to read about it here, because I'll never watch that garbage network until they get an NFL contract.

60 Minutes did a few of their snarky little tricks (like having the camera so close you could see Freeh's pores - but it was much less biased than expected.

Freeh came across well - and the questions were straight forward for the most part. I hate to say anything nice about 60 minutes, but it seemed like a good interview.

Hmmm... Let me see.  Do I believe Sandy Berger or Louis Freeh?  Sandy, who has a tendency to stuff his pants with top secret Documents or Louis Freeh the one time director of the FBI, hard choice.

All the more reason to read Louis Freehs new book: My FBI : Bringing Down the Mafia, Investigating Bill Clinton, and Fighting the War on Terror.

From Howard Kurtz at the Washington Post:

Under strong pressure from former president Bill Clinton's advisers, CBS's "60 Minutes" has agreed to read a statement denying an explosive charge being made on tonight's program by former FBI director Louis J. Freeh.

In the statement, Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger, Clinton's national security adviser, challenges Freeh's assertion that Clinton failed to press then-Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to cooperate with an investigation of the 1996 bombing of Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, and used the occasion to ask for a contribution to his presidential library. The Saudis made such a donation last year -- six years after the 1998 meeting....

NewsMax has picked up on Sandy Burglars' appearance on 60 Minutes:

Ex-president Bill Clinton has dispatched convicted national security document thief Sandy Berger to rebut bombshell charges from former FBI Director Louis Freeh set to air on CBS's "60 Minutes" tonight...

Rush, Sean and Boortz will have a field day with this story on Monday.

Anyway, God Bless Ya'll and Our Beloved United States!

Sweetie, We are all truly in the war for our existance, freedom, and our future! The left wants U.S. to accede to defeat, which we cannot afford at all to do. If we do, our future as a free nation will become emperiled. We have no choice but to persevere until complete victory is achieved, which will take a long time since these thugs are everywhere in the world. The enemy aiding and abbetting by the left(including the media and ACLU) must be exposed for all to see, and they must subsequently be stopped and kicked to the curb and forced to clean their act up.

I'm in it for the long haul.
God Bless and Hugs and Kisses!:-)

So very, very true dear Defender2! I'm in for the long haul too!!!

Sad to say, the media has been very effective these last few months in their "watch the birdie" game with the public, making them lose focus on this life-or-death goal.

The administration is fighting back to get the attention of the public focused on the war on terror, hopefully a good ballot in Iraq will be just the ticket.
